Abstract

PURPOSE:To increase the line speed of hot dipping by making combined use of a pair of rolls holding a steel strip in the vicinity of the surface of a molten metal bath and a nozzle with a narrow-angled tip to facilitate control of the amt. of molten metal adhered at high speed as well as to prevent splashing. CONSTITUTION:A pressurized gas is sprayed 3 upon both sides of steel strip 1 in the lateral direction to control the amt. of molten metal adhered to strip 1 as follows: strip 1 is held with a pair of rolls 5, 5 placed on or under the surface of hot dipping bath 2 so that the distance between the surface and the contact point of steel 1 and roll 5 is set within the diameter of roll 5. The pressing force of rolls 5, 5 to strip 1 is regulated with air cylinder 15, etc. The included angle between the straight line passing through A1B1 of the figure and that passing through A2B2 is adjusted to 10-60 deg. to the spray direction of the opening of each wiping nozzle 3 controlling the amt. of molten metal adhered. In addn., max. distance h between interval A1B1 or A2B2 and outer interval A1B1 or A2B2 of nozzle 3 is set to 0.5- 5mm. Thus, molten metal adhered to strip 1 is wiped to increase the amt. of molten metal dropping along strip 1.
