Abstract

PURPOSE: To keep an overall axial water thrust within a given range at all times and thus to prevent an accident including damage of a thrust bearing securely by controlling a regulating valve for balance pipes connecting each hydraulic machine.
CONSTITUTION: An arrangement wherein both inside and outside backpressure chambers of both left and right hydraulic machines are connected through balance pipes 13, 15 provided with regulating valves 12, 14 is effective enough to suppress a thrust to the runner of one hydraulic machine with a thrust to the runner of another hydraulic machine, thus keeping the thrust bearing from abnormal oscillation loads. In addition, thrusts to work on both runners for the hydraulic machines I, II are kept almost same and working counter each other by controlling an opening of the regulating valve 12, 14, thereby controlling an overall axial thrust in a single- directional stable area.
