Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the manufacture efficiency of a memory unit by automatically compensating the characteristic dispersion of a detector by measuring characteristics of a head-moving speed detector by using the memory unit and then by adjusting a compensator in accordance with the result of the measurement.
CONSTITUTION: Data are written on or read from a track on disk 100 by reciprocating heads 140 and 150 by actuator 280 in a direction crossing the track. On each fixed-distance movement of each head, increment position detector 200 generates a pulse and speed detector 230 generates a head speed signal to generate 250 a speed error signal corresponding to the speed signal and speed command signal compensated 240 and 260 in response to the speed signal. The actuator is driven responding to this error signal, the head is moved at a constant speed by the speed command signal, and the speed of the head is measured by the increment position detection pulse to adjust compensators 240 and 260.
