Abstract

PURPOSE: To make it possible to prospect continental shelf of water depth deeper than ever in such a way that support base body loaded with ballast is first set on sea bottom, then support columns of rig are lowered by jack down to upper part of base body and connected thereto, and finally boring platform of rig is jacked up so as to be spaced apart from sea surface.
CONSTITUTION: Lower tank 11 of support base body 2 and hollow support columns 12 are ballasted with sea water as required, and they are suspended all together from backup buoy 3 with wires 21 and slowly lowered down to sea bottom G at the depth till 200m. Upper tank 10 is filled with pressure-proof plastic balls 13 but permits sea water to enter therein and come out therefrom. Balls 13 are temporarily taken out of tank 10 for preloading and restered so as to have base body 2 seated securely on the sea bottom G. In the next, rig 1 is connected to the periphery 3a of backup buoy 3, thereafter vertical posts 5 of rig 1 are lowered by means of jacks 7 down to sockets 15 of base body 2 so as to have each spud at lower end of each post 5 fitted to each socket 15 repectively. Finally, backup buoy 3 is disconnected from rig 1, and boring platform 4 is filted by means of jacks 7 so as to be spaced apart from sea surface A.
