Abstract
PURPOSE:To fine the grain size of the drum, and to manufacture the reducing roll of excellent fatigue strength, by setting the forging ratio for the roll journal more largely than the forging ratio for the drum, and also, by setting the forging ratio for the drum itself at a small value, in case of manufacutring the reducing roll by the forging method. CONSTITUTION:The steel ingot, being cast by the electroslag remelting method, is heated to 1200 deg.C, and the roll journal is forged into diameter 300mm by the forging ratio larger than 2.5. Next, the ingot is heated to 850 deg.C, and the drum is forged into diameter 440mm; hereby, the reducing roll is manufactured. Hereupon, the forging ratio for the drum is set smaller than 1.5. After the specified heat treatment is finished on this roll, it is served for the reducing roll. Since the finish forging for the drum is executed under a low temperature, after the journal is forged as stated above, the grain size of the journal is prevented from coarsening, and also, the grain size of the drum becomes fine. Depending on this fining of the grain size, the reducing roll of excellent fatigue strength can be easily manufactured.
