Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce a capacity of a drying machine and to enable to omit a deodorizing furnace by utilizing a heat conduction type indirect drying machine, using a liquid heat medium having bigger thermal capacity than a gaseous medium, as the drying machine for sludge.
CONSTITUTION: Sludge 1 is supplied to an indirect drying machine 14 firstly and is dried indirectly by heat contained in a liquid heat medium 15 such as oil or the like comming from a combustion furnace 3. Dried sludge 1' is supplied to the combustion furnace 3 by means of a screw-feeder 5 and is burnt by heat from a burner 6 while being agitated properly by an agitator 8, and is discharged as ash 7. The combustion furnace 3 heat the liquid heat medium 15 through a heating coil 16, and exhaust gas 11, containing aqueous vapor and bad-smelling composition produced during the sludge is dried in the drying machine by the heat medium 15, is induced into a scrubber 18, where the aqueous vapor contained therein is removed by contacting with water 19, and succeedingly, is cooled while passing through a heat exchanger 22, thereafter, is discharged out of the system as a harmless gas.
