Abstract

PURPOSE: To eliminate internal stress that tends to restore a cylindrical body to a plate, by fitting both edges of a plate-shaped thermoplastic foamed body with a fastener and forming it into a cylindrical body and then heating it.
CONSTITUTION: Cylindrical thermoplastic resin foamed body 1', to which fasteners 5 are heat-bonded, is shaped into nearly a circular cylinder by means of pressure rolls 18, 18'. It is heated by hot air supplied from hot-air supply device 7 and fed to transport rolls 19, 19'. Cylindrical thermoplastic resin foamed body 1' is maintained in a cylindrical shape by transport roll 19, cooled by cold air supplied from cold air-supply device 8, cut by cutter 9, and made into heat insulating material 10 for pipes. At the stage when fasteners 5 are heat-bonded, cylindrical thermoplastic resin foamed body 1' has internal stress that tends to restore it into a plate. But this internal stress is removed in the following stage when it is heated by hot air supplied from hot-air supply device 7. Then it is cooled in this state, and a cylindrical thermoplastic resin foamed body having no internal stress is obtained.
