Abstract

PURPOSE: To facilitate the automation of a manufacturing process and stabilize the quality of products, by electrically heating the end of an armature coil, exfoliating a carbonized insulating film and welding the end of the coil to a commutator.
CONSTITUTION: The end of the armature coil 3 is thrusted on a segment 6 of the commutator 4 by the recessed part 121 of a welding electrode 12. An AC power source 11 is connected to the welding electrode 12 and a collector electrode 13 to electrically heat the end of the coil 3 to completely carbonize the insulating film 12. The end of the coil 3 is nipped by a jig 8 having a recess 81 whose width t is smaller than the diameter d of the conductor of the coil 3, thereby exfoliating the carbonized insulating film. The end of the coil 3 is arc-welded to a projection 61 of the segment 6 by the welding electrode 10. Because the carbonized insulating film is removed from the end of the coil 3 by nipping the end, the automation of the manufacturing process is facilitated.
