Abstract

PURPOSE: To detect a width part to perform an accurate dimension measurement by utilizing the fact that the width part is cooled more rapidly than the length part and has a large temperature drop quantity because of a stuck scale when water is sprinkled onto a kind of bar steel.
CONSTITUTION: When water is sprinkled onto bar steel 1, which is taken out from rolling rolls 2, from unit 3 with water spray, the width part of bar steel 1 has a large temperature drop quantity in comparison with the length part because of a large scale sticking quantity. Temperature detector 6 which is arranged movably on arc-shaped support plate 5 is rotated around bar steel 1 to detect a part of the maximum temperature drop quantity and detect the width part. This detection signal is sent to synchronous following unit 11, and rotary holder 7 is rotated through servo motor 10 and gear 9 so that a pair of width part dimension measuring units 8 and a pair of length part dimension measuring units 8 may face toward the width part and the length part respectively. As a result, the length part and the width part can be detected accurately, and their dimensions can be measured accurately, even if bar steel 1 has torsion.
