Abstract

PURPOSE: To give superior display and improve the productivity of the device by using two or more layers of porous materials partially bonded as electrolyte-impregnated layers of the electrochromic display (EC) device as diaphragms.
CONSTITUTION: Porous materials of porous fluorine resin or the like containing pigments and non-woven glass fiber fabrics are combined or the combinations of ceramic porous materials and non-woven glass fiber fabrics, etc. are used for the electrolyte-impregnated layer of the EC display device. These combined bodies are bonded by polyvinyl alcohol (the one of 70mol% or more in the degree of saponification which dissolves in water but not in organic solvents) and are then assembled into the device. These prevent the poor assembling work into the device as the fluorine resin alone it too soft. In addition, the glass fibers when bonded become easier to handle and the point with ceramic porous materials that they are easy to break when alone is improved. In this way, the ED display device of thin type and good productivity suitable for displaying of watches, electric calculators, etc. is obtained.
