Abstract
PURPOSE:To provide an avalanche photodiode APD with a stable bias by a system wherein a high-voltage stabilizing circuit is arranged in a floating type, and an output is made variable by an external DC small current. CONSTITUTION:An output of automatic 1 or manual 2 gain controlling circuit through an amplifier 7 decreaes in accordance as the quantity of an incident light of APD 5 decreases. An output of a high-voltage/low-voltage insulating LED-CdS coupler decreases and a resistance of CdS 10b increases consequently, a controlling circuit 9 operates to increase output of a high-voltage stabilizing circuit 8 and bias of APD, ths compensating the quantity of received light. The CdS resistance decreases in accordance as the quantity of incident light increases, and thus bias voltage decreases. Now, from providing the high-voltage stabilizing circuit 8 for output of a DC-DC converter 4 and further from using a photocoupler 10 for an output voltage controlling circuit 9 of the stabilizing circuit 8, an exceedingly stable bias circuit is obtainable, and gain controlling circuits 1, 2 can be insulated from a high-voltage circuit at the same time.
