Abstract

PURPOSE:To effectively inhibit corrosion of metal by using a 2-mercaptopyrimidine derivative as a principal component. CONSTITUTION:A 2-mercaptopyrimidine derivative represented by general formula I (where each of R1, R2 and R3 is H, 1-6C straight or branched chain alkyl, hydroxyl, mercapto or methoxy) is used as a principal component. This compound is added to a medium corrosive to metal optionally in combination with a variety of known anticorrosives, e.g., polyphosphates such as sodium hexametaphosphate, sodium nitrite and amines. The amount of the compound added to a corrosive bath is usually 5ppm or more in concn.
