Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent glass fiber from being colored and enhance the quality and yield by adding a reducing bleaching agent to a glass fiber sizing composition.
CONSTITUTION: To a glass fiber sizing composition is added hydroxylammonium halide, a hydrosulfite, acidic sulfite, phosphorous acid, phosphite or the like as a reducing bleaching agent. A glass cake formed by coiling a fiber drawn out of a nozzle while applying the resulting composition is dried by heating. A surface layer portion of the cake is heated at a higher temp. for a longer time compared to an inner layer portion. The surface layer portion is not, however, colored unlike a case using a conventional sizing composition. Accordingly, the surface layer portion is not discarded to enhance the yield, and a high quality product is obtd.
