NEW MATERIAL:An ester of a side-chain higher dibasic acid of formula I(R1 is lower alkyl; R2 is >=10C straight chain alkyl, straight chain alkenyl, hydroxyalkyl, or >=3C side-chain alkyl; n is 6-10). EXAMPLE:7-Ethylocatadecane-1,18-dioic acid dioctadecyl ester. USE:An external base useful as oils or emulsions for cosmetics, medicines, etc., having a high physical and chemical stability to heat, light or temperature, etc., tasteless, odorless, colorless, and unirritative to the skin. PROCESS:A compound of formula II or its reactive derivative is reacted with a compound of formula R2OH or its reactive derivative, to produce readily a compound of formula I.
