Abstract

PURPOSE: To maintain correct penetrating beam current and form sound weld zone by comparing the electron beam current penetrated through the welding work with a set value and controlling the focusing coil magnetic flux density for controlling electron beam density with said value at the electron beam welding of plate.
CONSTITUTION: The electron beam 2 radiated from an electron gun 1 is focused to the preset beam diameter by a focusing coil 3 and heats and melts the welding work 4. In this case, when the electron beam 2 penetrates to the back surface of the welding work 4, the penetrated electron beam 6 is collected by an antenna electrode 7 and is converted to voltage signal by a device 8. The feedback signal 16 thereof is compared with the set value of a setter 9 in a comparator 10 and is smplified in a thyristor amplifier 14 via automatic phase shifter 11 and pulse transformer 12. The electric power source 14 of the electron beam focusing coil is adjusted by the output thereof to adequately control the intensity of the magnetic field of the focusing coil 3 so that the current of the electron beam is made correct value and even back beads 18 are formed, whereby sound weld zone is formed.
