Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:The title compound of formula I {R1 is formula II (R5 is H, alkyl, etc.), pyridyl, etc.; R2 is H, alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, etc.; R3 is H, alkyl, phenyl, etc.; R4 is lower alkyl}.
EXAMPLE: 1,1-Dimethoxy-2-methyl-3-phenylthio-3-acetyl-5-hexene.
USE: Useful as an intermediate for synthesis of agricultural chemicals, e.g. allethrin, or medicines, e.g. prostaglandin.
PROCESS: A nitro compound of formula III as a novel compound, is reacted with a base, e.g. sodium hydroxide, and the resulting compound is reacted with an acid, e.g. sulfuric acid, in an alcohol of formula IV, e.g. methanol, for about 5 minutes to 10 hours, to obtain the title compound of formula I in high yield.
