Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a small and light serial type printer by saving electric power and reducing the noise by a method wherein a letter selection pulse motor is reversely rotated to give a silent paper feed and a carriage return.
CONSTITUTION: A gear 31a is engaged with the gears 3b, 31c, a release ratchet 33 secured with a paper feed axle 21. When a pulse motor 1 is turning in a clockwise direction for letter selection, the gear 31a is sliding toward the spring 32 side by releasing the ratchet from the gear 2a to turn only the gear 2a. If the pulse motor 1 is rotating in a counterclockwise direction when the printing and the shift of the carriage are completing the necessary print columns, the gears 31a and 2d are turning together since the ratchet is engaged with, which causes to turn the paper feed axle 21 by means of the gears 31b, 31c. Then, when the reversed rotating timing is set at the position corresponding to the special letter and turn one revolution, the paper feed roller 20 is turning at a fixed rotation to feed one column of the recording paper 24 interposed with the pinch roller 23.
