Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain rapid and smooth transition from the ignition to the steady combustion state by an arrangement wherein a premixing chamber including air ports is provided between the main combustion chamber and the upper portion of the flame protecting plate provided in the vaporizing combustion chamber to supply air for disturbing the upper stream from the vaporizing combustion chamber.
CONSTITUTION: Air is supplied from an air supply pipe 4 and injected from air ports 14, 14a, 15 and 19 via an air chamber 2, through holes 12 and an air chamber 13. Air injected through the air holes 14, 14a causes fuel to be evaporated from the surface of a porous structure 7 and a part of thus evaporated fuel is ignited. At the same time, premixing gas is supplied from a premixing chamber 18 formed between a flame protecting plate 16 attached on confronting wall surfaces of a vaporizing combustion chamber 9 and a gap portion 11 between the vaporizing combustion chamber 9 and a main combustion chamber 10. By so doing, power of an upstream current is lowered and internal pressure within the vaporizing combustion chamber 9 is increased. Thus, there are produced a force to spread the current laterally as well as a force forwarding the current upwards, so that an igniting flame is smoothly spread over the porous structure 7.
