Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable the captioned detection to be accomplished even in adverse environment by condensing the self-emitted light while air-purging the optical path of the self-emitted light radiated from the broadside strip-form region of the continuously cast slab and letting the same enter a temperature detector.
CONSTITUTION: The self-emitted light radiated from the fine strip-form region along the width direction of the moving continuously cast slab A passes through the optical path in an optical path hood 19 which is air-purged by the air being pressure-fed from an air pressure feed mechanism 22 and enters a two-color filter 12. It is then condensed by a condenser 10 and is entered to a solid-state temperature detector 11. The output signal from this detector 11 is inputted to the processing unit in the operator room to operate a display device and suitable temperature difference decision circuits, etc.
