Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a high density magnetic recording material with high coercive force and orientation effect by adhering Co to the surface of ferromagnetic CrO2 powder particles by electroless deposition after applying the treatments of granulation, sensitization and activation to the surface of ferromagnetic CrO2 powder particles. CONSTITUTION:Ferromagnetic CrO2 powder particles are added into aqueous NaOH solution at 90 deg.C with concentration of 0.4M/l and the surface of the CrO2 particles is granulated after stirring the solution for about an hour. Then, sufficient washing is applied to the surface of the particles with acetone, etc., the particles are immersed in aqueous hydrochloric acid solution of stannous tin with 5X10-2mole/l for about ten minutes at room temperature and the surface is sensitifized. The surface is then activated by using aqueous hydrochloric acid solution of palladium chloride with 3X10<-3>mol/l and one hour drying is applied at 50 deg.C after washing the surface at room temperature. Finally, while stirring, Co is precitated on the surface of the particles by applying electroless deposition thereto at 80 deg.C by using a plating liquid consisting of CoSO4.7H2O, NaH2PO2, Na3C6H5O7, H3BO3.
