Abstract
PURPOSE:To make a tracking track needless by providing two electrodes in a pickup element and by causing them to correspond to the same track simultaneously and by using the difference output between the signal levels obtained from both electrodes as tracking information. CONSTITUTION:Electrodes 25 and 26 have the same size and are vapor-deposited to stylus main body 15 consisting of sapphire, etc., in parallel in the pit width direction. Output ends of electrodes are connected to signal detection circuits 27 and 28 respectively and are connected to tracking coils 36 and 37 through amplitude comparator circuit 31, tracking coil driving circuits 34 and 35, etc. Now, when stylus is deflected to, for example, the electrode 25 side, the output level of amplifying circuit 29 in the electrode 25 side is lowered, and the output level of amplifying circuit 30 in the electrode 26 side becomes higher, and then, the difference output obtained by comparing them with each other in amplitude comparator circuit 31 is applied to a tracking compensation unit to correct and move stylus 15 to the electrode 26 side. Thus, it is unnecessary to provide a information track for tracking separately.
