Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a light, miniaturized, low-price electromagnetic ultrasonic wave converter by connecting an erase coil to a receiving coil in an opposite phase so as to offset the influence thereupon of the electromagnetic energy of a transmitting coil, whereby the excitation current for an electromagnet is reduced remarkably.
CONSTITUTION: An electromagnetic ultrasonic wave converter 1 consisting of an electromagnet 7, a transmitting coil 8, a receiving coil 9, an insulating plate 10 and an erase coil 11 is formed. In this structure the erase coil 11 is connected to the receiving coil 9 such that the coils 11, 9 have 180° phase difference. The coils 11, 9 are connected to an eddy current detection circuit 5 so that the coils 11, 9 offset the influence thereupon of the electromagnetic energy receiving from the coil 8. Accordingly, the offsetting of reflected ultrasonic signals can be minimized in spite of the difference between the coils 9, 11 in the distance from a material subjected to flaw detection and in the signal sensitivity due the difference in the mentioned distance. This structure permits minimizing the excitation current for the electromagnet and reducing a dead zone of a detected wave form. Therefore, the number of areas whose flaws are beyond detection is largely reduced.
