Abstract

PURPOSE: Recognizing that the degree of supercooling before an expansion valve decreases as the refrigerant comes deficient, to provide proper detection of deficiency of the refrigerant by electrically detecting the deficiency.
CONSTITUTION: In a refrigerant gas circuit of a refrigerator, a refrigerant deficiency detector 7 is provided between a liquid receiver 4 and an expansion valve 5. When the refrigerant is deficiency and turned into a superheated gas or saturated gas, the pressure inside a chamber 11 falls below that inside a chamber 12 which contains a wet refrigerant gas at roughly constant saturated pressure. Through a downward displacement of a diahragm 9, a magnet 13 moves down to operate a microswitch 15, making an alarm. The degree of deficiency of refrigerant at which the alarm is made is adjusted by changing the force of a spring 17 by an adjusting screw 16.
