Abstract

PURPOSE: To achieve the improvement in measurement accuracy by performing consecutive measurement with a magnetic marking device and a magnetic mark detector and performing measurement of the end size with a magnetic scale.
CONSTITUTION: A magnetic marking device 2 and a magnetic mark detector 3 are provided in the advancing direction of a long-length material 1 by leaving a reference length L1 and further a counter wheel 4 making contact to the long-length material 1 and a counter 7 are provided. Also, a magnetic scale 5 is provided between the magnetic marking device 2 and detector 3 to constitute the method. Hence, by performing consecutive measurement with the magnetic marking device 2 and detector 3 then stopping the material in the position of the value close to the specified end length having been set in the counter 7 and performing measurement of the end length with a magnetic sensor 8, knife edge 10 and magnetic scale head 11, the operation may be facilitated and the accuracy of measurement improved.
