Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the range and penetration of a shell with an assembled cylinder mounted around the shell in such a manner as to fill the gun bore while it is separated therefrom immediately after the shell leaves the mouth.
CONSTITUTION: As the powder burns, a bullet 1 advances through a gun bore together with an assembled cylinder 3W5. Here, since the assembled cylinder fills the bore though the bullet is of a reduced caliber, the gas pressure thrusts the bullet without leakage of high pressure combustion gas. The moment the bullet leaves the bore, the cylinder 8 receives a radial force with respect to the axis of the bullet from the front due to a strong air pressure. This force tears bands 6 and 7 so that the bullet 1 is separated from the assembled cylinder and sent toward the target. Since the bullet is of a reduced caliber, this affords a large initial speed and stable flight.
