Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide an air intake system for engine, in which its air intake passage is divided into a primary and a secondary sections, and the partition wall is twisted about 90 degrees at an upstream portion and a downstream portion to increase the mixture drawing speed and to give swirl to the mixture flow, whereby efficiency of combustion can be improved.
CONSTITUTION: Partition wall 15 is arranged in air intake passage 4, to divide the passage 4 into a primary section 16 communicated to primary passage 2 of carburetor 1 and having a relatively small cross section equal to that of the primary passage 2 and a secondary section 17 communicated to secondary passage 3 of carburetor 1 and having a relatively large cross section equal to that of the passage 3. The above partition wall 15 is twisted about 90 degrees at an upstream portion and a downstream portion. At the time of low-speed, low-load operation of engine 5, mixture is passed through the primary passage 2 of carburetor 1 and then through the primary section 16 of the intake passage 4 at a relatively high speed, and introduced into combustion chamber 6 with swirl being given to the mixture flow by the twisting of partition wall 15
