Abstract

PURPOSE: To recover dimethyl sulfoxide stably and efficiently and obtain the title fiber free of adhesion and devitrification, by extruding a specific maodified cellulose solution into a coagulation bath consisiting of an alkali, water, and dimethyl sulfoxide.
CONSTITUTION: A solution obtained by dissolving cellulose into dimethyl sulfoxide in the presence of para formaldehyde is subjected to a vacuum, or a gas, e.g. N2, etc. is blown into the solution to remove the remaining paraformaldehyde or formaldehyde outside the system. The resulting spinning solution free of formalin odor at room temperature is extruded into a coagulation bath having a high coagulating power consisting of an alkali, water, and dismethyl sulfoxide. Preferably, the amount of alkali is 0.01W5%, and the weight ratio of the dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) to the water is 20:80W85:15 in the primary bath for recovering and recycling DMSO efficiently at a low cost
