Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce machining time by employing a large amount of pick feed to carry out heavy cuting with approximately whole surface of cutter in the direction of cutter advance during rough machining while selecting a tool suited only for the heavy cutting without considering so much the height corrugated portions, etc. of unfinished surface.
CONSTITUTION: The P0 or pick feed is taken within the extent of 80% to 90% of cutter diameter and, during rough machining, cutting is carried out along cutter pass P2. Thereafter, in the sequence of cutter pass P2, P3, P4... finishing work is carried out.Throughout these cutter passes, the amount of pick feed is all the same amout P0 and the position of P2 is displaced P0/2 towards axis Y with respect to P1, and the positions of P3, P4 are displaced P0/4 towards axis Y with respect to P1 or P2. By ball end mills T1, T2, T3 and T4 along such cutter passes can be worked the curved surface of workpiece W to reduce substantially the machining tie.
