Abstract
PURPOSE:To form an anticorrosive film of superior adherence and strength on steel contg. Si>0.5% by heating the steel in an oxidizing atmosphere to form an inorg. film based on iron oxide and iron silicate, and coating an inorg. zinc rich paint using an alkali silicate as a binder. CONSTITUTION:Steel contg. Si>0.5% is heated to 700-950 deg.C in an oxidizing atmosphere to form a 0.02-0.5mm. thick inorg. film based on iron oxide and iron silicate. Since this film has good adherence to the steel base and superior strength. however it is porous and has an inferior waterproof character, a zinc rich paint using an alkali silicate such as calcium silicate as a binder is coated to prevent penetration of corrosive water, thereby forming a film of superior adherence, strength and corrosion resistance.
