Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable selection, with good reproducibility, of easy axis of a ferromagnetic layer containing Fe abont its longitudinal direction by setting the temperature of a heating medium flowed in cylindrical cans along which a substrate for vapor coating of magnetic layer is travelled to be equal to or higher than a specified point.
CONSTITUTION: In a vacuum tank 10, a film substrate 1 is travelled from a reel-off shaft 17 to a take-up shaft 16 along cylindrical cans 8 and 9. A ferromagnetic layer containing at least 0.5% of Fe is formed on the substrate 1 from the materials evaporated from evaporation materials 2 and 3. The temperature of a heating medium flowed in the cans 8 and 9 is kept equal to or higher than 150° C. The ferromagnetic layer may consist of any ferromagnetic material containing Fe, such as Co-Fe, Co-Fe-Si, Co-Fe-Ni, and the like.
