Abstract

PURPOSE: To simplify a reader by using one photo sensor, by discriminating the existence of a bar-code card and reading bar-code information by switching the discrimination conditions of the photo sensor according to time.
CONSTITUTION: When bar-code card 1 is inserted between light emission diode 3 and photo transistor Tr9 of the photo sensor system, screening from light between diode 3 and Tr9 is done to change output signal OUT from a high level to a low level for time T1 and the variation of this signal is detected and then applied to luminescence switching logic part 4. By receiving this signal variation, switching logic part 4 operates transistor Tr5 by way of amplifier 5 to use the parallel circuit of resistances 7 and 8 as a current-limiting resistance for diode 3, thereby increasing the driving current of diode 3. Consequently, it is made possible to read bar codes of card 1 by diode 3 and Tr9.
