Here, the subcode and the data of the P channel and the Q channel will be described. A signal recorded on a CD is sampled at a sampling frequency of 44.1 kHz with one sample or one word being 16 bits. The sampled data is obtained by dividing one sample or 16 bits of one word into upper 8 bits and lower 8 bits to form a symbol. Each symbol is subjected to an error correction coding process or an interleave process, and the audio data is processed. Every 24 symbols are combined into one frame. This corresponds to each of the six samples of the left and right stereo channels.

The operation mode of such a CD reproducing apparatus is as follows.
This is realized using the TOC data of the CD. That is, the program management area of the CD (the lead-in area 10
In 3), the start address, end address, first song number, last song number, etc. of each song are recorded as TOC data. The TOC data is read by the playback device when a CD is loaded, and stored in a memory inside the device. Accordingly, the above-described operation mode is realized by repeating the movement of the pickup to the start address of the music indicated by the TOC data and the subsequent reproduction operation for a predetermined time. However, such a function reproduces only the head portion of each song, and it is difficult for the user to grasp the contents or characteristics of the song.

Therefore, in one embodiment of the present invention, since the R to W channels are used, it can be realized by a simpler processing circuit. FIG. 3A shows the data format shown in FIG. 1 as serial data.
As shown in FIG. 3A, data of 32 bits from the beginning (only 24 bits are shown in FIG. 3A) is divided into data of each byte, and these bytes are divided into ID1, ID2, I
D3 and ID4 are assigned to form ID area 1. The subsequent text area 2 is also divided into data in byte units. Such processing on a byte-by-byte basis makes it possible to perform processing using the signal processing method for the Q channel, and a simple processing circuit configuration can be achieved.

In the data format shown in FIG. 2A, an error correction code using parity P and parity Q is used, whereas in the data format according to the embodiment of the present invention, error detection by CRC is used. Only the error is detected using the code, and when the error is detected, the data is read again. For this reason, the data is, for example, quadruple-written for each pack in the TOC, and a series of data strings are repeatedly recorded in packet units. With such multiplex recording, a complicated circuit for error correction can be omitted.

The ID1 at the head of the ID area 1 is as shown in FIG.
As shown in FIG.
It will be handled in bits. Furthermore, the 3 bits from the MSB are the same as the data in the above-mentioned mode so that even if the apparatus is mounted on a CD reproducing apparatus having a function of decoding the sub-codes of the existing R to W channels, the reproducing apparatus does not malfunction. Is written, and an undefined code, for example, mode 4 (“100”) is assigned as the mode indicated by the three bits. By doing so, an unrecognizable mode is only detected even if the reproducing apparatus is mounted on an existing reproducing apparatus. Therefore, the reproducing apparatus merely stops operation and does not have a possibility of malfunction. The undefined modes include mode 5 and mode 6 in addition to mode 4, and these modes can be used instead of mode 4.
