Abstract
Description
Claims (1)
- 【特許請求の範囲】 1.液晶ディスプレイのための液晶セルであって、前記液晶セルは、 (a) 複数個の層表面によって規定される液晶層を含み、 (1) 前記液晶層は(A)負の誘電体異方性と、(B)約1.5未満のK33 /K11弾性定数比と、(C)約300ナノメータから約500ナノメータの間 の相遅延とを有し、 (2) 前記液晶層は複数個の液晶分子を含み、前記層表面に隣接する前記 液晶分子は垂直配向的に配向され、 (3) 前記液晶層はほぼ0.2からほぼ0.35の間のセルギャップ対ピ ッチ比を達成するのに十分な濃度のキラルドーパントをさらに含み、 (4) 前記液晶分子は複数個のチルトドメインにおいて組織化され、前記 液晶セルはさらに、 (b) 液晶層の第1の主表面に近い第1の電極と、 (c) 液晶層の第2の主表面に近い第2の電極とを含み、第1および第2の 電極は、電極が電位のソースに接続されるときに液晶層にかけて電界を適用する ようにされ、 (d) 前記第1の電極および前記第2の電極のいずれかまたは両方が前記電 界に1つ以上の横成分を生じる複数個の隔たりを含み、前記1つ以上の横成分の 各々が前記チルトドメインの少なくとも1つに対してアジマス方向を規定する、 液晶セル。 2.液晶ディスプレイのための液晶セルであって、前記液晶セルは、 (a) 複数個の層表面によって規定され、負の誘電体異方性を有する液晶層 を含み、前記液晶層は、 (1) 複数個のチルトドメインにおいて組織化された複数個の液晶分子を 含み、前記層表面に隣接する前記液晶分子は実質的に垂直配向的に配向され、さ らに、 (2) ほぼ0.2からほぼ0.35の間のセルギャップ対ピッチ比を達成 するのに十分な濃度のキラルドーパントを含み、前記液晶セルはさらに、 (b) 液晶層の第1の主表面に近い第1の電極と、 (c) 液晶層の第2の主表面に近い第2の電極とを含み、第1および第2の 電極は、電極が電位のソースに接続されるときに液晶層にかけて電圧を適用する ようにされる、液晶セル。 3.前記第1の電極および前記第2の電極のいずれかまたは両方が、前記電界に 1つ以上の横成分を生じる1つ以上の隔たりを含む、請求項2に記載の液晶セル 。 4.前記チルトドメインのアジマス方向は前記電界への前記横成分によって規定 される、請求項3に記載の液晶セル。 5.前記層表面に隣接する前記液晶分子は垂直配向的に配向される、請求項3ま たは4のいずれかに記載の液晶セル。 6.前記液晶層の相遅延は約300ナノメータから約550ナノメータの間であ る、請求項2に記載の液晶セル。 7.前記液晶ディスプレイは通常黒色のディスプレイである、請求項2に記載の 液晶セル。 8.前記液晶層のK33/K11弾性定数比は約1.5未満である、請求項2に記載 の液晶セル。 9.液晶ディスプレイであって、 (a) 偏光子層と、 (b) 検光子層と、 (c) 請求項1、2、3、4、5、6、7、または8の特定される1つに従 った液晶セルと、 (d) 前記偏光子と前記検光子との間に配置され、少なくとも1つの負の複 屈折Cプレート層を含む少なくとも1つの補償器層とを含む、液晶ディスプレイ 。 10.前記補償器層は少なくとも1つの正の複屈折Aプレート層をさらに含む、 請求項9に記載のディスプレイ。
