ラーが発生したり、出力画像の品質が劣化してしまうな

るために、画像形成装置内にセットされた用紙の種類を
自動的に判別する技術が種々発明されている。これらの
発明はその大半が光学式センサを用いたもので、特開平
6−56313号や特開平2−56375号公報のように1個の発光
素子と2個あるいは複数の受光素子を設けて反射型セン
サを構成したものがある。その他にも透過型センサを用
いたものや透過型センサと反射型センサを組み合わせて
構成したものなどが容易に考えられる。

    子の光を被検出対象である用紙に照射し、前記用紙から
    の反射光を前記受光素子で検出する用紙種類検出装置に
    おいて、前記発光素子及び前記受光素子の用紙に対する
    配置角度θを15°〜30°の間に設定したことを特徴
    とする用紙種類検出装置。

    である用紙で反射されて前記1個の受光素子に入射され
    るように配置したことと、前記受光素子は前記用紙で反
    射されてくるそれぞれの発光素子の光を互いに効率良く
    受けるように所定の角度をもって配置したことを特徴と
    する用紙種類検出装置。
