However, in the ink jet printer, as described above, the CPU 70 is provided with the timing for executing flushing, capping, and purging in the interrupt process in addition to the normal print data reception and print process. A CPU that does not perform arithmetic processing at the timing for such maintenance in order to perform arithmetic processing
Instead, a high-performance CPU capable of high-speed processing must be incorporated. Therefore, since the configuration of the CPU becomes complicated, there is a problem that the reliability is lower and the cost is higher than that of the CPU that does not perform the arithmetic processing. Also,
Since the ROM for storing the program used for the calculation of the CPU also needs to have a large storage capacity, the cost is further increased.

On the left side of the platen roller 6, a purging device 18 for performing a purging operation is arranged. The purging operation is performed by the print head 10 because, for example, air bubbles are generated in the ink flow path in the print head 10 during use of the printer or ink droplets are attached to the ejection surface. This is an operation for recovering a good ejection state when ejection failure occurs. In this purging operation, the print head 10 moves to a position covered by the cap 15 of the purging device 18, a negative pressure is generated by a known pump incorporated therein, and the defective ink inside the print head 10 is discharged. It is performed by sucking through. The pump of the purging device 18 is driven by an LF motor (not shown) via a pump cam gear 19. further,
The print head 10 is covered (capped) by the cap 15 in order to prevent the nozzles from running dry when the printing operation is completed.
