2. Description of the Related Art FIG. 5 shows, for example, a liquid crystal display device (LCD).
In the mass production line, the element forming sheet 1 for forming a plurality of liquid crystal display elements is shown. The transparent element forming sheet 1 made of glass, resin film or the like has a size capable of cutting out several element substrates 2 and, for example, four element substrates 2 are cut along a cutting line C 1 as shown in the figure. , C 2 by cutting. A sealing material 3 is provided on each element substrate 2 by a screen printing method or the like, and liquid crystal is injected into a region surrounded by the sealing material 3 from a liquid crystal injection hole 4 provided in a part thereof.
After the liquid crystal is injected, the injection hole 4 is closed with a sealant to fill the liquid crystal inside. In addition, in the element forming sheet 1, L-shaped dummy seals 5 are provided at four corners of each element substrate 2.
A type of reinforcing member having a letter shape or an angle shape may be provided. The dummy seal 5 is installed for the following reason. In an element forming sheet 1 having a size capable of cutting and aligning four liquid crystal display elements, two element forming sheets 1 having the same shape or similar to each other are vertically arranged, and four element substrates 2 on the sheet are mating substrates. To form a vacant cell assembly by facing each other with a required gap therebetween. Next, the formed substrate bonded body is separated along the cutting line C 1 so that two empty cells are aligned horizontally with the injection holes 4 aligned. An appropriate number of such two-piece bonded bodies are aligned and the injection holes 4 are aligned and injected. At the time of injecting the liquid crystal, a bundle of the bonded bodies is set in a tank in a substantially vacuum state so that the liquid crystal injecting hole faces downward in the vertical direction, and the injecting hole 4 is sufficiently immersed in the liquid crystal. Raise the atmospheric pressure in the tank. As a result, liquid crystal is injected into each empty cell. After the injection of the liquid crystal is completed, each injection hole 4 is sealed with a sealing material and then separated one by one along the cutting line C 2 . In the process from the substrate bonding to the liquid crystal injection / sealing described above, the glass substrate is cut along the cutting lines C 1 and C 2 , but at the time of cutting, the corners where the sealing member 3 of each liquid crystal cell does not particularly exist. 4 parts are easily damaged. In order to prevent the occurrence of such a defect, a member that supports the substrate in the same manner as the seal member, that is, a dummy seal 5 is provided at the four corner portions, but not the seal member, to reinforce the structural strength of the corner portion. This prevents the occurrence of such damage.

By the way, at the time of injecting liquid crystal, the entire element forming sheet 1 formed by the two bonded substrates is immersed in the liquid crystal accommodating tray, so that the liquid crystal injecting hole 4 and the liquid crystal injecting hole 4 are at substantially the same level. The liquid crystal also adheres to the dummy seal 5. However, since the dummy seal 5 is usually formed in an angled shape such as an L shape in order to improve the reinforcing performance, the attached liquid crystal easily stays in the corner. After cutting the liquid crystal panel, the dummy seal 5 is essentially unnecessary as its name suggests. However, providing such a step of removing the dummy seal 5 is disadvantageous in that it increases the steps and the number of steps in the mass production line.
Often left installed. Under such circumstances, it is necessary to wash and remove the liquid crystal attached to the dummy seal 5, but it is very difficult to remove the liquid crystal attached and attached to the corners as described above. Therefore, an object of the present invention is to provide a liquid crystal display device that can easily clean the liquid crystal attached to the dummy seal.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS A liquid crystal display device of an embodiment according to the present invention will be described below with reference to the drawings. FIG. 1 shows an element forming sheet 20 for forming several liquid crystal display elements. The element forming sheet 20 is made of a transparent material such as glass.
In the embodiment, four element substrates 10 are formed into one sheet having a size that can be cut. That is, as shown in FIG. 5 of the conventional example, a sealing material 12 is provided on each element substrate 10 by a screen printing method or the like, and a region surrounded by the sealing material 12 is provided with a part of the liquid crystal. Liquid crystal is injected through the injection hole 13. After the liquid crystal is injected, the injection hole 13 is closed with a sealant so that the liquid crystal is sealed inside. Further, dummy seals 14 as substrate supporting members are formed in a curved shape or an L-shape bent at a substantially right angle at four corner portions of one element substrate 10 on the element forming sheet 1, and the sealing material 11 is formed. It is provided by screen printing or the like. In this case, if the dummy seal 14 and the sealant 12 are made of the same material, for example, epoxy resin, they can be directly formed by screen printing, which simplifies the manufacturing process.
The dummy seal 14 is provided at its curved bottom portion or bent corner portion with a liquid crystal escape portion formed by any of a through hole, a slit, and a cutout portion.

Using the element forming sheet 20 as described above, for example, four liquid crystal panels 30 as a liquid crystal display element into which liquid crystal has been injected are formed as shown in FIG. That is, two identical or similar element forming sheets 20 are bonded together, and four element substrates 10 and mating substrates 11 on the sheet are laminated.
Four empty cells are formed with the required gaps between them. Then, two empty cells are cut out along the cutting line C 1 so that two empty cells are aligned side by side with the injection holes 4 aligned.

In the steps from the substrate bonding to the liquid crystal injection / sealing described above, the glass substrate is cut along the cutting lines C 1 and C 2. At the time of cutting, especially the sealing member 3 of each liquid crystal cell is cut. The four corners that do not exist are easily damaged. That is, when the display portion has a shape other than a quadrangle like the liquid crystal display device for a wristwatch of the present example, the four corners of the panel do not have the sealing material serving as the supporting and reinforcing member for the substrate, and are easily damaged at the time of cutting. However, in the liquid crystal display device according to the present invention, since the dummy seal 14 described above is provided at the panel corner portion to reinforce the structural strength of the portion, the panel corner portion is prevented from being damaged by the shearing force when the substrate is cut.

Then, when the liquid crystal 17 is immersed in the liquid crystal accommodating tray and injected, the liquid crystal 17 also adheres to the dummy seals 14 at the four corners. In particular, the bent corner is a portion where the liquid crystal 17 easily stays, but since the notch 14a (or the slit 15a and the through hole 16a) is provided there, the liquid crystal 17 escapes from there and escapes to the outside and stays there. Can be prevented. Therefore, it is not necessary to clean the staying liquid crystal, and even if some cleaning is required, it is only a minor operation.

As is apparent from the above description, in the liquid crystal display device according to the present invention, it is possible to prevent the corners of the device from being damaged or sagging due to the cutting shearing force in the cut and align process after the liquid crystal is injected into the dummy seal. Although it is provided for the purpose of preventing it, there is an advantage that the work time for cleaning the liquid crystal adhered and accumulated in the dummy seal when the liquid crystal is injected can be reduced by providing the liquid crystal escape portion in the dummy seal.
