A connector for a flat cable using this type of flat cable as an electric wire is disclosed in, for example, Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 61-61.
-131382 and Japanese Utility Model Laid-Open No. 64-13682, one end is connected to the connection part of the flat cable and the other end is connected to a connection part such as a printed circuit board. It is housed and held in the housing. A receiving portion for receiving one end of the flat cable is formed in the housing, and one end of each terminal is exposed in the receiving portion.
A flat cable is used by inserting one end of the flat cable into the receiving part of the housing and electrically connecting each connecting part to one end of each terminal. Generally, a flat cable connector is used for each connecting part of the flat cable. In order to secure the electrical connection between the terminal and the terminal, a member having a tongue piece inserted into the receiving portion of the housing together with one end of the flat cable to press each connection portion of the flat cable to each terminal (hereinafter , Slider).

By the way, in response to the recent demand for miniaturization of electronic devices, even for flat cable connectors, the housing is miniaturized and a large number of terminals are arranged in the housing to make it flat. There is a demand to provide a high density of connection points between a cable connecting portion and a terminal in a limited space. In order to meet such demands, it is preferable to provide a flat cable with a large number of connecting portions at a high density, but the width of each connecting portion is less than or equal to a predetermined width in order to prevent improper connection or misconnection with terminals. However, it is necessary to secure a certain distance or more between the connecting portions in order to prevent connection failure. Therefore, the plurality of connecting portions are arranged in one row on one end of one side of the flat cable base, and the plurality of terminals in the housing are also arranged in one row corresponding to each connecting portion of the flat cable. However, there is a limit to downsizing the housing, and it becomes difficult to provide the connection points of the flat cable connection portion and the terminals in the housing with high density.

On the other hand, by arranging a plurality of connecting portions on both sides of the base portion of the flat cable and arranging a plurality of terminals in the housing in two rows corresponding to the respective connecting portions on both sides of the flat cable, the housing is arranged. It is conceivable that the connection points of the flat cable connection part and the terminals can be provided at high density in the housing by making the size of the flat cable smaller, but if the flat cable connection parts are provided on both sides of the base part, the flat cable However, there is a problem that the cost becomes high.

It is also conceivable to arrange the terminals in the housing in a plurality of rows and to use a plurality of flat cables having a plurality of connecting portions on one surface of the base portion so as to correspond to the terminals in each row. When the number of flat cables to be attached increases, it becomes troublesome to attach each flat cable to one housing, and there is a problem that workability deteriorates.

In the flat cable connector of the present invention, the flat cable is used in the state of being folded back along the direction substantially orthogonal to the direction in which a plurality of connecting portions are arranged. It is possible to arrange a large number of connecting portions on the base portion having a predetermined width (width in the folded state) in the same extent as in the case where is provided on both surfaces of one sheet-like base portion. Moreover, since the connecting portions need only be formed on one side of the base portion, the cost does not increase as in the case where the connecting portions are provided on both sides of the base portion, and a large number of connecting portions can be formed on one base portion. As compared to the case where the same number of connecting parts are formed separately on multiple bases, the number of flat cables to be attached to the housing is smaller, and the workability when attaching the flat cables to the housing is remarkably high. Are better.

Further, since the plurality of terminals held by the housing are arranged at the positions corresponding to the plurality of connection portions of the flat cable inserted in the receiving portion of the housing in the folded state, the terminals are Compared with the case where the terminals are arranged side by side, it is possible to arrange a large number of terminals at high density in a limited space while reducing the size of the housing.

The flat cable 50 as shown in FIG.
A flexible sheet-shaped base portion 51, a plurality of connection portions 52 formed at a front end portion (left end portion in the drawing) of the base portion 51 at predetermined intervals along the front edge, and extending from each connection portion 52. It is provided with a plurality of circuit parts 53 that have been taken out. Each connecting portion 52 is formed wider than each circuit portion 53, and the sheet-shaped base portion 51 is formed wide on the front end side in order to secure a space between each connecting portion 52, and only the circuit portion 53 is formed. Further, the right side portion in the drawing is formed narrow in order to arrange the plurality of circuit portions 53 at high density. By forming the base portion 51 in such a shape, it is possible to provide a large number of connecting portions 52 while reducing the overall width of the flat cable 50, and the flat cable 50 after connection is less likely to get in the way.
