As a bus-type network that does not require a central control station and is highly expandable, it uses a completely distributed peer-to-peer protocol transmission method, namely CSMA/CD (Carrier Sense).
Multiple Access/Collision Detection) method is known. This method performs baseband transmission via a coaxial cable as a transmission path, but recently, in order to use the coaxial cable more efficiently, The development of a so-called broadband network that converts the base band signal into a carrier band signal to effectively utilize the band is underway.

However, to realize collision detection using this method, MSK (Minimum-Shift Keying) or FSK is required.
(Frequency-Shift Keying) must be used. Then, according to the current technology, for example,
For a bit rate of 10 Mbps, the required bandwidth was 15 MHz, including the card band. However, this still leaves too large a bandwidth, which is undesirable, and a narrower band has been desired.

The modem 6 is informed, for example, as shown in FIG. That is, transmission data consisting of a baseband signal given from a higher-level protocol device via an interface line or a signal obtained by encoding that signal is
After being inputted to the FM modulator 11 and subjected to frequency modulation, the signal is sent to the transmission line 2 via the bandpass filter 12 and the transmission amplifier 13. That is, the transmission data is modulated into a carrier band signal with a frequency shift and is transmitted to the transmission path 1. On the other hand, a carrier band signal inputted from the receiving line 3 of the transmission line 1 is inputted via the receiving amplifier 14, and is given to the FM demodulator 16 through the bandpass filter 15. this
The carrier band signal is demodulated by the FM demodulator 16 and the received data of the base band is reproduced. This baseband received data is then given to the upper protocol equipment via the interface line.

Incidentally, the level detector 17 that performs such collision detection is constructed as shown in FIG. The signal given from the bandpass filter 15 is detected via an envelope detection circuit 20, and its signal level is determined. Then, the level signal is guided to the amplifier 22 via the low-pass filter 21, where it is amplified with a predetermined gain, and is also input to the first and second comparators 23 and 24, respectively. These first and second comparators 2
3 and 24 are first and second reference signal generators 2;
The signal level is determined by using the reference signals outputted by the reference signals 5 and 26 as threshold values. The first reference signal generator 25 provides a threshold value slightly higher than the received signal level which is substantially constant over time when a signal is transmitted from only one modem 6 and no collision occurs. 23 outputs a signal when the received signal level exceeds the threshold value. Second, the reference signal generator 26
gives a threshold slightly lower than the temporally constant received signal level, and the second comparator 24
is designed to output a signal when the received signal level falls below the threshold. By this,
Signals are sent out simultaneously from two or more modems 6,
The collision state is detected by utilizing the fact that the beat signal caused by the collision exhibits a change in amplitude that is more than twice that of each transmitted signal. The output signals of the first and second comparators 23 and 24 are logically summed via an OR circuit 27, and an AND circuit 2
8 and the output of the amplifier 22 is applied to the monostable multivibrator 29 only during the existence period of the received signal. By this,
When detecting a collision, the monostable multivibrator 29
Therefore, a collision detection signal with a fixed time width is output. Note that a flip-flop is used in place of the AND circuit 28 and the monostable multivibrator 29, and when the amplifier 22 outputs a "1" signal, the OR circuit 2
Set the flip-flop in response to the output of 7,
The flip-flop may be reset by a "0" change in the output of the amplifier 22 to obtain the collision detection signal. In other words, the level detector 17 detects the signal level peculiar to the beat signal caused by the collision, thereby detecting the collision.

In a network configured in this way,
Assuming that the transmission data given to each modem 6 by the upper protocol equipment is a baseband signal as shown in FIG. 5, the FM modulator 1
1, when the carrier wave center frequency is c and the frequency shift is d , when the above transmission data is "1", 1 = c + d, and when the transmission data is "0", frequency modulation is performed such that 2 = c - d . The modulation parameter △ in this modulation process is set so that △=2 d・T≦1, where T is the time interval per 1 bit of the above data, and this reduces the period of the bit signal due to collision. It is set to be equal to or less than the bit time interval T of the baseband signal.

That is, as shown in FIG. 6, when data is transmitted from the two modems 6 temporally (in terms of phase) at either tφ, the phase changes as shown by the shaded area in the figure. A signal difference occurs due to a difference in the bit data, and a signal difference also occurs due to a difference in bit data. The time width t of this signal difference becomes minimum when the above-mentioned time difference tφ becomes tφ=T/2, and its value becomes t=T/2. In this signal difference portion, a beat signal having a period (1/2d) as shown in FIG. 7 is generated by each component of frequencies 1 and 2 which have undergone the frequency shift. The maximum amplitude of this beat signal is approximately twice the amplitude of the transmission signal from each modem 6.

Therefore, when a collision occurs on the transmission line 1, the level detector 17 configured as described above can promptly and reliably detect the collision within the time width t of the signal difference between the baseband signals. becomes possible.

On the other hand, it is assumed that the higher-level protocol device encodes the transmission data in the base band and provides it with Manchester encoding as shown in FIG. In this case as well, the modem 6 similarly obtains carrier band signals with frequencies 1 and 2 corresponding to "1" and "0" of the encoded signal, but the modulation parameter △ in this case is △=2 d・T≧0.5. However, in this case, if a collision occurs between two signals with a time (phase) difference of tφ, as shown in FIG. 9, for example,
A signal difference with a time width t occurs as shown by the shaded area in the figure,
A similar beat signal is generated in the signal difference portion. In this case, the generation time of the above beat signal is
This is the minimum time interval T at which the transmission signal becomes "1" or "0". As described above, since the modulation parameter Δ for the Manchester code is set to 0.5 or more, the following relationship holds: 1/2.1/2 d ≦T=t. This means that the time width t
This means that the amplitude of the beat signal is always 0 or twice the amplitude of the transmitted signal. Therefore, it is possible to reliably detect signal collisions on the transmission line 1, similar to the example described above.

As described above, according to this method, when frequency modulating and transmitting a baseband signal or its encoded signal, the modulation parameter Δ is adjusted so that the period of the beat signal caused by collision is equal to the frequency of the baseband signal or its encoded signal. Since it is set to be equal to or less than the beat time interval of the encoded signal, collisions can be detected extremely easily and reliably. Moreover, since there is no need for processing such as transmitting two pulse signals and monitoring the state of the transmission line 1 prior to data transmission as in the conventional method, network efficiency can be made sufficiently high. Further, as described above, since the collision is detected from the beat signal on the transmission line 1, it is possible to simultaneously detect the collision in all the modems 6 connected to the transmission line 1. Furthermore, the configuration of the modem 6 is simple as described above, and can be realized at low cost, resulting in great practical effects.

The presence of this ripple is considered to cause deterioration of detection characteristics in the beat detection method described above. Furthermore, by passing the baseband signal through the LPF 51 and the bandpass filter 12, the frequency shift of the modulated signal becomes clearly smoothed and analog-like, as shown in FIG. , the double level due to the beat signal, or the 0 level cannot be reliably generated within one bit time.

In response to such predictions, the present inventors conducted the following considerations. First, we focused on the fact that beat generation when signals collide is based on the phase difference between two signals.

FIG. 12 shows a change in phase difference between two signals. However, without supplying the baseband signal to the LPF51, the RF signal is subjected to MSK modulation as it is.
This is a phase difference change in RF signals that occurs due to data discrepancy when signals collide.

An important point in this diagram is that the total amount of phase difference changes (2Wd×T) occurring during period T is ±π. When the total amount of phase difference change is ±π, it is equivalent to the level of the beat signal occurring during this period being either twice the normal level or zero level.

Next, FIG. 13 shows the change in phase difference when the MSK modulated RF signal collides with the baseband signal after passing the baseband signal through the LPF 51 to remove harmonic components. Removing harmonic components dulls the waveform. If we pay attention to the frequency, the frequency will not change sharply depending on the data value, but will change gradually.

Even if there is a difference of one bit in such a state, the two waveforms will collide with each other, and the phase shift will also be blunted. Therefore, during one bit time T, the total amount of phase difference change does not reach ±π. However, during the period 2T indicated by diagonal lines in Figure 13,
The total amount of phase difference change is approximately ±π. Therefore, the period
During 2T, the level of the beat signal is either doubled or zero level, and the basic principle described above can be applied as is.

Of course, here we used zero level or twice the level as the threshold during beat signal detection, but by changing these thresholds, the period

Finally, another method of limiting the band will be shown as a comparative example. In addition to the method of the present invention, the present inventors have proposed the following methods: (1) Narrowing the band of the bandpass filter while keeping the current MSK, (2) Performing FSK modulation with multiple changes to four values.
In other words, we considered using 4-level FSK.

First, band-limiting MSK, which narrows the band of a bandpass filter, is too aggressive in narrowing the band.
That is, when the baseband signal is directly subjected to MSK modulation as shown in FIG. 10, the energy is not concentrated at a certain frequency but is widely distributed. Since a relatively large region of energy concentration is removed from the spectrum of such a distribution, large ripples occur in the output waveform, and
The amount of phase transition of the MSK modulated wave will decrease.
If a large ripple occurs, it will be a fatal drawback for the beat signal detection method that monitors the level of the beat signal. Furthermore, the eye opening is not sufficient, and a considerable deterioration of the bit error rate is expected. However, it has the advantage of hardware simplicity. Therefore, depending on the transmission quality, etc., this can be an effective method.

Next, in 4-level FSK, since the amount of phase transition is slightly small, a predetermined beat signal is generated when the bits are different, and although it cannot be completely guaranteed whether the level will be doubled or the level will be zero, the RF signal There are few ripples. However, the demodulator becomes complicated.

In this invention, if the channel is set according to the CCITT standard, 12MHz including the guard band can be used. If we focus only on the number of channels, this will increase significantly, which is extremely effective in practice.
