Abstract

PURPOSE: To efficiently conduct a sub-heating control and simplify a power source by a method wherein a common power source is used for a carriage drive and a sub-heating drive, and a table for a sub-heating drive is provided, e.g. for every power source voltage which is to be changed over in accordance with a carriage travel mode.
CONSTITUTION: In a sub-heat (initial heat, preheat, line heat, interval heat, and duty heat) control, a table for a sub-heating time is used so as to keep a recording head temperature at a predetermined object value. A parameter referring to a sub-heating time is a rank determined by a printing standby time or printing time and an atmospheric temperature. In addition, a line heating is conducted when a carriage is accelerated, and a common drive source is used for driving the carriage and a heater. Therefore, with respect to a line heating, tables with different line heating forms are used respectively for a normal fine mode and a draft mode in which a carriage speed is doubled.
