[Industrial Application Field] The present invention relates to a paper coating composition having excellent coating properties and printability. [Technical background] In general, paper coating compositions are required to have high fluidity and excellent coating properties, as well as good printing gloss and ink receptivity on coated paper, and excellent printability. It is necessary to have the following. However, in recent years, there has been increasing emphasis on improving the productivity of coated paper and improving the printability of coated paper as printing speeds have increased. In order to meet these demands, paper coating compositions have been developed. tends to have a high solidity differentiation. However, in highly solidified paper coating compositions, although the coverage of the paper coating composition on the base paper is improved and the printability is improved, the viscosity of the paper coating composition paint increases. This results in a decrease in fluidity and a significant decrease in coatability. In order to improve this decrease in fluidity, it is effective to use a large amount of calcium carbonate as a pigment, but if a large amount of calcium carbonate is used, the coverage of the paper coating composition on the base paper deteriorates. , there is a problem that printability is reduced. in this way,
It is difficult to obtain a paper coating composition that is excellent in both coatability and printability, and for this reason, various studies have been conducted. For example, there are techniques disclosed in JP-A-54-58789 and JP-A-58-4894 that study the improvement of coating properties and printability from the aspect of latex. Unable to obtain satisfactory effects. [Object of the Invention] The object of the present invention is to provide a coated paper with a high solid content that contains a pigment with a high blending ratio of calcium carbonate, has excellent coating properties, and can obtain a coated paper with excellent printability. An object of the present invention is to provide a composition. [Structure of the Invention] The paper coating composition of the present invention is characterized by being a paper coating composition containing a pigment containing 50% by weight or more of calcium carbonate and a latex, wherein the solid content of the latex is Per 100 parts by weight: (1) 0.5 of a nonionic surfactant with a cloud point of 90°C or less
~5 parts by weight (2) Organopolysiloxane with a cloud point of 60°C or less
0.5 to 5 parts by weight are added. The present invention will be explained in detail below. The paper coating composition of the present invention contains calcium carbonate.
Contains additives such as pigments, latex, and water-soluble polymers added as necessary in a large amount of 50% by weight or more, and the following substances (1) and substances
(2) is added in an amount of 0.5 to 5 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of the solid content of the latex. Substance (1): Nonionic surfactant with a cloud point of 90°C or lower Substance (2): Organopolysiloxane with a cloud point of 60°C or lower Here, the cloud point refers to a 2% aqueous solution of the sample gradually being stirred. The temperature at which an aqueous solution becomes cloudy when heated. The paper coating composition of the present invention is a high solids composition, preferably having a solids concentration of 60% by weight or more. As calcium carbonate, which is a component of the pigment used in the present invention, it is practically preferable to use heavy calcium carbonate, which is inexpensive and has good supply stability, and its content is 50% by weight or more, preferably 70% by weight based on the entire pigment. % by weight or less. When the amount of heavy calcium carbonate in the pigment is less than 50% by weight, the fluidity of the paper coating composition decreases, resulting in a decrease in coating workability. Furthermore, using a large amount of inexpensive heavy calcium carbonate is advantageous in terms of manufacturing costs. Pigments other than calcium carbonate include commonly used clay, titanium dioxide, barium sulfate, satin white, kaolinite, and the like. The latex used in the present invention is not particularly limited, and those commonly used as paper coating compositions can be used. Specific examples of latex include natural rubber latex, styrene
Butadiene copolymer latex, self-crosslinking styrene-butadiene copolymer latex, acrylonitrile-butadiene copolymer latex, self-crosslinking acrylonitrile-butadiene copolymer latex, carboxy-modified styrene-butadiene copolymer latex, polychloroprene latex Examples include acrylic acid ester latex, polyethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer emulsion or latex, polyvinyl acetate emulsion or latex, and ethylene-propylene copolymer emulsion or latex. The amount of latex used is preferably 8 to 20 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of pigment. If the amount of latex used is less than 8 parts by weight, the adhesive strength of the paper coating composition will decrease, and if the amount of latex used exceeds 20 parts by weight, the coated paper will have poor stickiness and blister resistance. There is a tendency to decrease. In order to further improve the printability of the paper coating composition, the latex used in the present invention is preferably one in which the surface of the polymer particles constituting the latex has little negative charge.Such a latex can be obtained by the following method. can. () In the polymerization for producing latex, as an emulsifier (a) an amphoteric surfactant, or (b)
A method using a combined system of an amphoteric surfactant and an anionic surfactant. () A method for producing latex by polymerizing monomers that impart cationic properties. () A method that uses a combination of the methods () and () above. Note that the amphoteric surfactant in the above method is a surfactant having an anionic part and a cationic part in the same molecule, and examples thereof include the following. (a) Lauryl betaine, stearyl betaine, cocoamidopropyl betaine, 2-undecyl-
Each salt of hydroxyethylimidazonium betaine (b) lauryl-β-alanine, stearyl-β-
Salts of alanine, lauryl di(aminoethyl)glycine, octyldi(aminoethyl)glycine, and dioctyldi(aminoethyl)glycine. Examples of anionic surfactants include higher alcohol sulfate esters, alkylbenzene sulfonates, and aliphatic sulfonates. etc. can be exemplified. Further, as the monomer that imparts cationic properties, the following can be exemplified. (a) Ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid esters having an amino group such as dimethylaminoethyl (meth)acrylate, diethylaminoethyl (meth)acrylate, t-butylaminoethyl (meth)acrylate (b) p-dimethylaminostyrene ( c) 2-vinylpyridine, 4-vinylpyridine,
Ethylenically unsaturated cyclic amines such as 2-methyl-5-vinylpyridine and 2,4-diethyl-5-vinylpyridine (d) Alkenylpyridines such as propenylpyridine and isopropenylpyridine (e) Pyrrolidinoethyl (meth) ) Cyclic aminoalkyl esters of ethylene carboxylic acids such as acrylate, piperidinoethyl (meth)acrylate, and hexamethyleneiminoethyl (meth)acrylate (f) Morpholinoethyl (meth)acrylate, morpholinoethyl (meth)acrylamide (t) Ethyl ( Alkyl esters of ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acids or ethylenically unsaturated alkylamides having quaternary ammonium salts such as meth)acrylate trimethylammonium chloride and (meth)acrylamidopropyltrimethylammonium chloride Nonionic surfactants in the present invention The agent is not particularly limited as long as it has a clouding point of 90°C or lower, preferably 70°C or lower. Examples of nonionic surfactants include (a) polyoxyethylene alkyl ether (b) polyoxyethylene alkyl phenyl Ether (c) Polyoxyethylene alkylamine (d) Polyoxyethylene polyoxypropylene alkyl ether (e) Polyoxyethylene oxypropylene alkyl phenyl ether (f) Polyoxyethylene alkyl ester (g) Sorbitan fatty acid ester (d) Poly Examples include oxyethylene sorbitan fatty acid ester (2), polyoxyethylene fatty acid ester (2), glycerin fatty acid ester (2), and oxyethylene oxypropylene block polymer. Among the above nonionic surfactants, (a) and (b) are particularly preferred. If the cloud point of the nonionic surfactant exceeds 90°C, a sufficiently bulky coating layer cannot be obtained, and the printability of the coated paper becomes insufficient. Also, the lower limit of cloud point is usually 20
℃ or higher, preferably 35℃ or higher. The amount of these nonionic surfactants used is 0.5 to 5 parts by weight, preferably 1 to 3 parts by weight, based on 100 parts by weight of the solid content of the latex. When the amount of nonionic surfactant used is less than 0.5 parts by weight,
Coating properties of paper coating composition paints decrease due to decreased dispersion stability and decreased fluidity due to increased viscosity. On the other hand, if the amount of nonionic surfactant used exceeds 5 parts by weight, , the water resistance of the coated paper decreases. The timing of adding the nonionic surfactant is not particularly limited; for example, it can be added during the production of latex, after the production of latex, or during the production of the paper coating composition, but organopolysiloxane It is preferable to add it before adding. The organopolysiloxane in the present invention is an organopolysiloxane having a lower alkoxy group, a polyoxy lower alkylene group, or a derivative thereof in the molecule, and examples thereof include those having the structure shown below. HOC 4 H 8 −O−CH 2 (CH 3 ) 2 SiO− [(CH 3 ) 2 Si
O−] 10 −Si(CH 3 ) 2 −O−C 4 H 8 OH (HOCH 2 CH 2 ) 2 N−CH 2 −Si(CH 3 ) 2 −O−Si
( CH3 ) 2 - CH2 -N( CH2CH2OH ) 2Also , the organopolysiloxane used in the present invention has a cloud point of 60°C or lower, preferably 30°C or higher, and more preferably 35 to 55°C. be. If the cloud point of the organopolysiloxane exceeds 60°C, the printability tends to decrease, and if the cloud point of the organopolysiloxane is less than 30°C, the viscosity of the coating composition for paper coating may change over time. It is large and reduces coating workability. The amount of organopolysiloxane used is 0.5 to 5.
Parts by weight, preferably 1 to 3 parts by weight. If the amount of organopolysiloxane used is less than 0.5 parts by weight, a coated layer with sufficient bulk cannot be obtained, resulting in insufficient printability; if the amount of organopolysiloxane used exceeds 5 parts by weight, , it is not possible to obtain a smooth coated surface, the white gloss and printing gloss of the coated paper are reduced, and the adhesive strength of the coated layer is reduced. The paper coating composition of the present invention may optionally contain:
A water-soluble polymer is added. This water-soluble polymer imparts water retention and fluidity to paper coating composition paints,
It is effective in improving coatability. Examples of such water-soluble polymers include starch, casein, and carboxymethyl cellulose, with starch being particularly preferred. Starch imparts appropriate fluidity and water retention to the paper coating composition and also improves the stiffness of the coated paper. The amount of water-soluble polymer used is preferably 1 to 10 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of the pigment.
Parts by weight. If the amount of water-soluble polymer used is less than 1 part by weight, the fluidity and water retention of the paper coating composition paint will decrease, resulting in insufficient coating properties. If the amount exceeds 1 part by weight, the water resistance of the coated paper tends to decrease. The paper coating composition of the present invention is applied to the surface of base paper by a commonly used blade coating method, roll coating method, air knife coating method, or the like. [Effects of the Invention] As is clear from the Examples described later, the paper coating composition of the present invention contains a pigment with a high blending ratio of calcium carbonate, a nonionic surfactant having a specific cloud point, and Contains organopolysiloxane with a specific cloud point, so it has good fluidity and water retention, and has excellent coating properties. Moreover, it has excellent printability such as printing gloss and ink receptivity, and has excellent adhesive strength. It is possible to form a coating layer with a large coating layer. The reason why such effects are achieved is considered to be due to the following reasons. In other words, the nonionic surfactant improves the dispersion stability of the solid component of the paper coating composition paint, thereby improving the fluidity, and the nonionic surfactant improves the fluidity of the paper coating composition. The water retention of the paint is improved, and changes in its viscosity over time are suppressed, thereby preventing a decrease in fluidity, making it possible to maintain excellent coating properties over a long period of time. In addition, since the organopolysiloxane promotes gelation of the coating film of the paper coating composition paint, the coating layer can be bulky and coated paper with excellent printability can be obtained. be able to. By the way, although organopolysiloxane promotes the gelation of the coating film of the paper coating composition paint and brings about the above-mentioned beneficial effects, it tends to impair the smoothness of the surface of the coating layer. The surfactant has the effect of controlling the degree of gelation of the coating film by mitigating the aggregation of the pigment and latex, and contributes to smoothing the surface of the coating layer. points are fully resolved. As described above, in the present invention, both the nonionic surfactant and the organopolysiloxane act effectively synergistically to form a paper coating composition that has excellent coating properties and printability. [Examples] Examples of the present invention will be described below. In addition,

[Table] Characteristic test: Fluidity of each paper coating composition of Examples 1 to 5 and Comparative Examples 1 to 7, and the properties obtained by coating each of these paper coating compositions by a blade coating method. The printability of coated paper was investigated using the following method. Regarding printability, tests were conducted on five items: dry pick, wet pick, ink receptivity, print gloss, and white paper gloss. The results of the test are shown in Tables 1 and 2. Coating workability: Coating amount and coated surface were visually determined when coating was performed at a coating speed of 500 m/min using a tabletop blade coater (manufactured by Kumagai Riki Co., Ltd.). “○”…Good “△”…The amount of coating is too much or too little, but streaks do not occur on the coated surface “×”…The amount of coating is difficult to control and streaks occur on the coated surface “×” ×”…The viscosity of the coating liquid is high and coating is difficult.Dry pick: Based on RI printing tester. The test piece is fixed to a drum, and printing is continued repeatedly at a speed of 30 rpm, printing is stopped after a certain period of time, and judgment is made with the naked eye. The score will be 5 points for those that were completely printed, and 1 point for those that could barely be printed.
A score is assigned to the intermediate point according to its degree, and the 5 data obtained from each sample are arithmetic averaged. Wet pick: By RI printing test machine. Water is applied once to a test piece fixed on a drum, and after a certain period of time, printing is performed once, and judgment is made in the same manner as in the case of dry pick described above. Ink receptivity: Same as wet pick, but printing was done using an ink with a much lower tack value than in the case of wet pick measurement so as not to cause pick, and judged in the same way as RI pick. Print gloss: Use an RI printing machine to print a solid sheet of web offset ink, and then use a gloss meter (75
Measured at ℃). White paper gloss: The measured value at 75°/75° is shown in % using a Murakami gloss meter. The results of the above characteristic tests are summarized as follows. Examples 1 to 7: It was confirmed that all had high fluidity and excellent coating properties, and the printing properties were generally high. Comparative Examples 1 to 7: In all cases, the fluidity and printability of the coated paper were generally considerably inferior to those of the examples of the present invention. Specifically, in Comparative Example 1,
The amount of heavy potassium carbonate in the pigment is outside the scope of the present invention, and the fluidity of the composition paint is low, and the dry pick and ink receptivity of the coated paper are poor.
In Comparative Example 2, the cloud point of the nonionic surfactant was outside the range of the present invention, and the wet pick of the coated paper was particularly poor. In Comparative Example 3, neither a nonionic surfactant nor an organopolysiloxane was used, and the coated paper was particularly poor in ink receptivity. In Comparative Example 4, the amount of nonionic surfactant used was outside the range of the present invention, and the coated paper was particularly poor in terms of wet pickup. In Comparative Example 5, the amount of organopolysiloxane used was outside the range of the present invention, and the coating composition was particularly inferior in white paper gloss and printing gloss, and the strength of the coating layer was low. In Comparative Example 6, no organopolysiloxane was used, and the coated paper had poor ink receptivity. In Comparative Example 7,
Since no nonionic surfactant is used, the fluidity and stability of the composition paint are low, and the coated paper is inferior in terms of dry pick, white paper gloss, and printing gloss.
