Abstract

PURPOSE: To perform charging control with the time limit output from a timer circuit even in case of malfunction in a temperature detection system including a temperature sensor or a temperature detecting circuit by controlling the charging operation of a secondary battery based on any one of a detection output from the temperature detection circuit or a time limit output from the timer circuit which is outputted first.
CONSTITUTION: Upon start of charging operation, charging current begins to be fed from a charging power supply 1 to a battery 3 temperature of which begins to rise at the end of charging operation. Temperature of the battery 3 is then converted through a temperature sensor 4 into an electric signal, having a voltage value corresponding to the temperature which is inputted to a temperature detecting circuit 5. When the output voltage from the temperature sensor 4 reaches a reference level, the temperature detecting circuit 5 detects the output voltage which is then fed to a charge control circuit 2 in order to stop charging operation or to reduce the charging current as compared with normal level. Upon malfunction of the temperature sensor 4 or the temperature detection circuit 5, a timer 6 produces a time limit output in order to stop charging operation or to reduce charging current.
