[Industrial Application Field] The present invention relates to a biaxially oriented polyester film, and more specifically, the present invention relates to a biaxially oriented polyester film, and more specifically, a lubricant comprising specific spherical silica particles and particles containing a metal salt of terephthalic acid or an alkylene terephthalate component (and a phosphorus component). This invention relates to a biaxially oriented polyester film which has excellent abrasion resistance, slipperiness, and improved scratch resistance. [Prior Art] Polyester films, represented by polyethylene terephthalate films, are used in a wide range of applications due to their excellent physical and chemical properties, such as magnetic tapes, capacitors, photographs, packaging, and OHP applications. It is used in In a polyester film, its slipperiness and abrasion resistance are major factors that determine the workability of the film manufacturing process and the processing process in each application, as well as the quality of the product.
If these are insufficient, for example, when a magnetic layer is applied to the surface of a polyester film and used as a magnetic tape, there will be severe friction between the coating roll and the film surface during application of the magnetic layer, and this will also cause severe abrasion of the film surface. In extreme cases, wrinkles, scratches, etc. may occur on the film surface. Furthermore, even after slitting the film coated with the magnetic layer and processing it into audio, video, or computer tape, there are many guide parts, playback heads, etc. when pulling it out from a reel or cassette, winding it, or other operations. Significant abrasion occurs between the layers, causing scratches, distortion, and the precipitation of white powdery substances due to scratches on the surface of the polyester film, which is often a major cause of missing magnetic recording signals, that is, dropouts. Generally, to improve the slipperiness of a film, a method is adopted in which the contact area between the film and guide rolls etc. is reduced by imparting unevenness to the film surface. A method of precipitating inert fine particles from the residue and (ii) a method of adding inert inorganic fine particles are used. Generally, the larger the size of the fine particles in these raw polymers, the greater the slipperiness effect, but for precision applications such as magnetic tape, especially video, the particles are large. Since this itself can cause defects such as dropouts, the unevenness on the film surface needs to be as fine as possible, and there is currently a demand to satisfy these conflicting characteristics at the same time. Further, in a film made of polyester containing the above-mentioned inert fine particles, peeling occurs at the boundary between the fine particles and the polyester due to biaxial stretching, and voids are formed around the fine particles. These voids are formed when the fine particles are larger, when the shape is more spherical than plate-like, when the fine particles are single particles and are less likely to deform, and when the unstretched film is stretched, the larger the stretching area magnification is, and the lower the temperature is. The larger it becomes. As these voids get larger, the shape of the protrusions becomes gentler, increasing the coefficient of friction, and even small scratches on the voids of the biaxially oriented polyester film that occur during repeated use can prevent particles from falling off. This reduces durability and causes the generation of shavings.
It has long been common practice to add one or more of calcium carbonate, titanium oxide, kaolin, etc. (a combination of large particles and small particles) as inert fine particles (Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 51-34253, Unexamined Japanese Patent Publication 1972-
No. 78954, JP-A-52-78954, JP-A-53-41355
However, since these fine particles form large voids, they have the above-mentioned problem, and there is a desire to improve this problem. Incidentally, the precipitated particles (for example, polyester oligomer metal salts, etc.) precipitated during the production of polyester have small voids and have good abrasion properties, but they have drawbacks such as poor runnability and scratch resistance. [Purpose of the Invention] The present inventor has solved these disadvantages, and has improved the slipperiness and abrasion resistance of the film by reducing the voids around the inert particles and making the film surface moderately rough. The present invention was developed as a result of extensive research in order to obtain a biaxially oriented polyester film with a surface suitable for various uses. Therefore, an object of the present invention is to provide a biaxially oriented polyester film that has small voids, uniform film surface roughness, and even surface irregularities, and has excellent slip properties, abrasion resistance, and scratch resistance. It is in. [Configuration/Effects of the Invention] According to the present invention, an object of the present invention is to contain polyester as a lubricant having an average particle size of 0.05 to 4 μm and a particle size ratio (major axis/breadth axis) of 1.0 to 1.2. Addition of 0.005 to 3% by weight of certain spherical silica particles (A) and 0.005 to 3% by weight of particles (B) of metal salt containing terephthalic acid metal salt or alkyl terephthalate component having an average particle size of 0.005 to 5 μm. This is achieved by using a biaxially oriented polyester film. Here, the major axis, minor axis, and area-equivalent diameter of the spherical silica particles are determined from an image magnified, for example, 10,000 to 30,000 times with a scanning electron microscope after depositing a gold thin film layer on the particle surface. Determine the diameter and particle size ratio using the following formula. Average particle diameter = sum of area circle-equivalent diameters of measured particles / ratio of several particle diameters of measured particles = average major diameter of silica particles / average minor diameter of the particles The polyether in the present invention refers to polyether containing aromatic dicarboxylic acid as the main acid component. , is a polyester whose main glycol component is aliphatic glycol. Such polyester is substantially linear;
It also has film-forming properties, particularly film-forming properties by melt molding. Examples of aromatic dicarboxylic acids include terephthalic acid, naphthalene dicarboxylic acid, isophthalic acid, diphenoxyethane dicarboxylic acid, diphenyl dicarboxylic acid, diphenyl ether dicarboxylic acid, diphenyl sulfone dicarboxylic acid, diphenyl ketone dicarboxylic acid, and anthracene. Dicarboxylic acids and the like can be mentioned. Examples of aliphatic glycols include polymethylene glycols having 2 to 10 carbon atoms such as ethylene glycol, trimethylene glycol, tetramethylene glycol, pentamethylene glycol, hexamethylene glycol, decamethylene glycol, and alicyclic glycols such as cyclohexanedimethanol. Diols and the like can be mentioned. In the present invention, polyesters containing, for example, alkylene terephthalate and/or alkylene naphthalate as main constituents are preferably used. Among such polyesters, for example, not only polyethylene terephthalate and polyethylene-2,6-naphthalate, but also terephthalic acid and/or 2,6-naphthalene dicarboxylic acid account for 80 mol% or more of the total dicarboxylic acid component, and the total glycol component A copolymer in which 80 mol% or more of the ethylene glycol is ethyllene glycol is preferred. At that time, the total acid component
Less than 20 mol% is terephthalic acid and/or 2,6-
Can be the above-mentioned aromatic dicarboxylic acids other than naphthalene dicarboxylic acid, and can also be aliphatic dicarboxylic acids such as adipic acid, sebacic acid, etc.; alicyclic dicarboxylic acids such as cyclohexane-1,4-dicarboxylic acid, etc. Can be done. In addition, 20 mol% or less of the total glycol component can be the above glycol other than ethylene glycol,
Or for example, hydroquinone, resorcinol,
Aromatic diols such as 2,2-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)propane; aliphatic diols containing an aromatic ring such as 1,4-dihydroxymethylbenzene; such as polyethylene glycol, polypropylene glycol, polytetramethylene glycol, etc. It can also be polyalkylene glycol (polyoxyalkylene glycol) and the like. In addition, the polyester in the present invention includes, for example, an aromatic oxyacid such as hydroxybenzoic acid;
Also included are those in which a component derived from an oxycarboxylic acid such as an aliphatic oxyacid such as -hydroxycaproic acid is copolymerized or combined in an amount of 20 mol % or less based on the total amount of the dicarboxylic acid component and the oxycarboxylic acid component. Furthermore, the polyester in the present invention has a substantially linear amount, e.g.
Also included are those copolymerized with a trifunctional or higher functional polycarboxylic acid or polyhydroxy compound, such as trimellitic acid, pentaerinlitol, etc., in an amount of mol % or less. The above polyester is known per se, and can also be produced by a method known per se. The polyester preferably has an intrinsic viscosity of about 0.4 to about 0.9 as measured as a solution in o-chlorophenol at 35°C. The biaxially oriented polyester film of the present invention has many fine protrusions on its surface.
According to the present invention, these many fine protrusions are caused by two types of lubricants dispersed and contained in the polyester.
That is, it originates from particles consisting of spherical silica particles (A) and particles (B) of a metal salt containing a metal terephthalate or alkylene terephthalate component. A polyester containing such a lubricant dispersedly can be produced at any time during the reaction to form a polyester, for example, during the transesterification reaction or polycondensation reaction when using the transesterification method, or at any time when using the direct polymerization method. can be prepared by adding the particles (preferably as a slurry in glycol) into a reaction system.
Preferably, spherical silica particles or the like are added to the reaction system at the beginning of the polycondensation reaction, for example, until the intrinsic viscosity reaches about 0.3. Particle (A) and particle (B)
can be added individually or together. In the present invention, the spherical silica particles (A) dispersed in the polyester have an average particle size of 0.05 to 4 μm and a particle size ratio (major axis/breadth axis) of 1.0 to 1.2. These spherical silica particles have an individual shape that is extremely close to a true sphere, and the silica particles, which have been known as a lubricant, have a diameter of 10 m.
Ultra-fine lumpy particles of μ size, or aggregates of these particles.
It is distinctive in that it is significantly different from forming aggregates (agglomerated particles) of about 0.5 μm. The average particle size of the spherical silica particles is preferably 0.1
~3 μm, more preferably 0.1 to 2 μm. If the average particle size is less than 0.05 μm, the effect of improving slipperiness and scratch resistance is insufficient, which is not preferable. Moreover, if the average particle diameter exceeds 4 μm, the film surface becomes too rough, which is not preferable. Further, the particle size ratio of the spherical silica particles is preferably 1.0 to 1.15, more preferably 1.0 to 1.1. In addition, it is preferable that the shaped silica particles have a sharp particle size distribution, and the relative standard deviation representing the steepness of the distribution is 0.5 or less, more preferably 0.3 or less, particularly
It is preferably 0.12 or less. This relative standard deviation is expressed by the following formula. Here, Di: Area circle equivalent diameter of each particle (μm): Average value of area circle equivalent diameter {=( oi=1 Di)/n} (μm) n: Represents the measured number of particles. When spherical silica particles with a relative standard deviation of 0.5 or less are used, the height of the protrusions on the film surface becomes extremely uniform because the particles are spherical and have an extremely steep particle size distribution. Furthermore, the individual protrusions on the film surface have a very sharp shape because the voids around the lubricant are small, and therefore the slipperiness is extremely good even with the same number of protrusions. As long as the spherical silica particles satisfy the above-mentioned conditions, there are no limitations on the manufacturing method or the like. For example, spherical silica particles are produced by hydrolyzing ethyl orthosilicate [Si(OC 2 H 5 ) 4 ] to create monodisperse hydrated silica [Si(OH) 4 ] spheres, and then dehydrating these monodisperse hydrated silica spheres. and silica [≡Si-O
-Si≡] can be produced by three-dimensional growth (Journal of the Chemical Society of Japan '81, No. 9, P. 1503). Si(OC 2 H 5 ) 4 +4H 2 O →Si(OH) 4 +4C 2 H 5 OH ≡Si−OH+HO−Si≡ →≡Si−O−Si≡+H 2 O Terephthal dispersed in polyester in the present invention Particles of metal salt containing acid metal salt or alkylene terephthalate component (hereinafter referred to as metal salt particles) B have an average particle size of 0.05 to 5μ.
m, preferably 0.1 to 3 μm, more preferably 0.3 to 3 μm
It is 2 μm. If this average particle is less than 0.05 μm,
The effect of improving slipperiness and abrasion resistance is insufficient,
Undesirable. Moreover, if this average particle diameter exceeds 5 μm, the surface of the film becomes too rough, which is not preferable. Specific examples of such metal salt particles (B) include: etc. can be exemplified. Preferred examples of the metal forming the metal salt particles include alkali metals and alkaline earth metals. The metal salt particles (B) are not limited by their manufacturing method. As a typical example, we will discuss the production of calcium terephthalate particles.
A terephthalic acid aqueous solution is added to a calcium chloride aqueous solution to precipitate calcium terephthalate, and the calcium terephthalate is separated, washed with water, and dried. Next, anhydrous calcium terephthalate is dispersed in a glycol such as ethylene glycol to form a slurry, and then the calcium terephthalate is separated, washed with water, and dried. The slurry can be subjected to a conventional particle size adjustment process such as a powder frame process, a classification process, etc. to obtain a glycol slurry in which calcium terephthalate having a predetermined average particle size is dispersed. Further, particles of the ethylene terephthalate component or a metal salt containing the same and the phosphorus component can be produced by a known method for producing internally precipitated particles, but this particle production is carried out by the system for producing the polyester in the present invention. This needs to be done in a different system. In the present invention, the amount of spherical silica particles (A) added is:
The amount must be 0.005 to 3.0% by weight, preferably 0.01 to 1.0% by weight, and more preferably 0.05 to 0.5% by weight based on the polyester. This amount added
If it is less than 0.005% by weight, the effect of improving slipperiness and abrasion resistance will be insufficient, while if it exceeds 3.0% by weight, the film will frequently break during the manufacturing process, which is not preferable. In addition, the amount of metal salt particles (B) added must be 0.005 to 3.0% by weight based on the polyester.
Preferably 0.01 to 1.0% by weight, more preferably 0.05
~0.5% by weight. If the amount added is less than 0.05% by weight, the effect of improving slipperiness, abrasion resistance, and scratch resistance will be insufficient, while if it exceeds 3.0% by weight, the film will frequently break, which is not preferable. The biaxially oriented polyester film of the present invention can be produced according to conventional methods for producing biaxially oriented films. For example, a polyester containing spherical silica particles (A) and a polyester containing metal salt particles (B) are melt-mixed and extruded, melt-formed into an amorphous unstretched film, and then the stretched film is It is produced by biaxially stretching, heat setting and, if necessary, relaxation heat treatment. At this time, the film surface characteristics vary depending on the particle diameter, amount, etc. of the spherical silica particles (A) and metal salt particles (B), and also depending on the stretching conditions, so they are appropriately selected from conventional stretching conditions. In addition, density, heat shrinkage rate, etc. change depending on the temperature, magnification, speed, etc. during stretching and heat treatment.
Conditions that simultaneously satisfy these characteristics are determined. For example, the stretching temperature ranges from (Tg-10) to (Tg+45)°C (Tg: glass transition temperature of polyester) when the first-stage stretching temperature (e.g., longitudinal stretching temperature: T 1 ) to the second-stage stretching temperature. The temperature (for example, transverse direction stretching temperature: T 2 ) is preferably selected from the range of (T 1 +5) to (T 1 +40)°C. Further, the stretching ratio is preferably selected from a range in which the uniaxial stretching ratio is 2.5 or more, particularly 3 times or more, and the area magnification is 8 times or more, especially 10 times or more. Furthermore, the heat fixing temperature is 180-250
℃, preferably from the range of 200 to 230℃. The biaxially oriented polyester film of the present invention has extremely small voids compared to conventional films. This is because the spherical silica particles (A) are extremely close to a true sphere, so stress around the lubricant propagates evenly during stretching, and stress does not concentrate on a part of the interface between the polyester and the lubricant. It is also assumed that the metal salt particles (B) are easily deformed by stretching, and stress is relaxed due to this deformation. In the present invention, by adding spherical silica particles whose particle size distribution is extremely sharp, the distribution of protrusions formed on the surface of the polyester film is extremely uniform, and a polyester film with uniform protrusion heights can be obtained. . By further containing metal salt particles in this film, it is possible to further improve the abrasion resistance and scratch resistance while maintaining the abrasion resistance. The biaxially oriented polyester film of the present invention has uniform uneven surface characteristics, excellent slipperiness and abrasion resistance, and is characterized by significantly less generation of scratches, white powder, and the like. This biaxially oriented polyester film can be used in a wide variety of applications by taking advantage of these properties. For example, when used as a base film for magnetic recording such as video, audio, and computer computers, excellent electromagnetic conversion characteristics, slipperiness, running durability, etc. can be obtained. Also, when used in capacitor applications,
Low coefficient of friction, excellent windability, low crushing load, high transparency, etc. can be obtained. As mentioned above, this biaxially oriented polyester film can be used not only as a base film for magnetic recording media, but especially as a base film for magnetic tapes.
It can also be widely applied to other fields such as electrical applications, packaging applications, and films for vapor deposition. Further, the film may be subjected to a surface treatment such as an adhesive layer coating or a corona treatment on one or both sides thereof. Furthermore, the film contains antistatic agents,
It does not matter if it contains a third component such as an ultraviolet absorber or an adhesive. [Example] Hereinafter, the present invention will be further explained with reference to Examples.
Note that various physical property values and characteristics in the present invention were measured as follows. (1) Particle size of spherical silica particles There are the following conditions for measuring particle size. (1) When determining the average particle size, particle size ratio, etc. from silica powder. (2) When determining the average particle size, particle size ratio, etc. of silica particles in the film (1) When using silica powder: Scatter the silica powder on the electron microscope sample stage so that the individual particles do not overlap as much as possible. Then, a gold thin film vapor deposited layer with a thickness of 200 Å to 300 Å was formed on this surface using a gold sputtering device, and observed with a scanning electron microscope at a magnification of, for example, 10,000 to 30,000 times.

The conditions were to place the sample in a bell jar, raise the vacuum to about 10 -3 Torr, and perform ion etching at a voltage of 0.25 KV and a current of 12.5 mA for about 10 minutes. Furthermore, gold sputtering was applied to the surface of the film using the same equipment, and it was observed using a scanning electron microscope at a magnification of, for example, 10,000 to 30,000 times.

(2) Particle size ratio A small piece of film is fixed and molded using epoxy resin, and an ultra-thin section (cut parallel to the film flow direction) with a thickness of about 600 Å is created using a microtome.
