Description of the Related Art Ceramics have superior heat resistance, wear resistance, and corrosion resistance compared to metals, but they also have the drawbacks of low toughness and difficulty in machining. For this reason, ceramics are rarely used alone; ceramics are used only in areas that require necessary properties such as heat resistance, wear resistance, and corrosion resistance, and metals are used in areas that require toughness and workability. It is mostly used in the form of a ceramic-metal bonded body. A ceramic-metal bonded body is generally manufactured by a diffusion bonding method or a brazing method, but since ceramics have poor reactivity with metals, it is generally difficult to bond them directly. For this reason, silver-copper-titanium systems containing active metals such as titanium, which are highly reactive with ceramics,
An alloy with a lower melting point than the base metal, such as copper-titanium, is coated on the ceramic surface by liquid phase or solid phase diffusion to form a metallized layer with excellent adhesion to the ceramic, and the metallized layer is bonded to the ceramic through the metallized layer. Join metal or
Alternatively, a method for manufacturing a ceramic-metal bonded body called the active metal method has been put into practical use, in which an active metal layer is inserted between the ceramic and the metal to bond the ceramic and the metal.

Although silicon nitride/sialon-based materials have excellent properties, they have poor reactivity with metals and are more difficult to bond with metals than oxide-based ceramics. The active metal method uses silicon nitride and
This is an excellent method for firmly bonding sialon-based metals, but since the melting point of the active metal layer is lower than that of the base metal,
At high temperatures, the bonding strength of the bonded body becomes dominated by the high temperature strength of the active metal layer itself.

It is necessary to join. Bonding ceramics and metals at higher temperatures increases the internal residual stress in the ceramics that occurs during cooling after bonding due to the difference in their thermal expansion coefficients, increasing the possibility that cracks and fractures will occur in the ceramics. Even if an intermediate layer such as a soft metal is inserted between the ceramic and the metal, the residual stress of the ceramic cannot be sufficiently alleviated, and there is a practical limit. In particular, silicon nitride/sialon type has a thermal expansion coefficient of 3 to 4 x 10-6/℃, and alumina type has a thermal expansion coefficient of 8 x 1
This is less than half of 0-6/°C, making it even more difficult to produce a healthy joined body. Therefore, if heat resistance is defined as the temperature at which the ceramic-metal bonded body produced by the active metal method can maintain its strength at room temperature, the heat resistance of the ceramic-metal bonded body made by the active metal method is 3.
00°C, and about 600°C for copper-titanium systems.

Research has also been conducted on coating ceramic surfaces with metals with higher melting points than active metals, such as silver-copper-titanium and copper-titanium, by vapor deposition, but the reaction with the ceramics is insufficient, so it is difficult to achieve sufficient bonding strength. This method was developed with the aim of producing a ceramic-metal bonded body whose bonding strength does not deteriorate even at near high temperatures, and involves injecting inert gas ions into the surface of silicon nitride/sialon ceramics while depositing metal. This is a method for joining silicon nitride/sialon ceramics and metal, which is characterized by forming a metallized layer and joining the ceramic and metal via the metallized layer, and the vapor-deposited metal is titanium,
Zirconium, hafnium, and nickel can be used.

A ceramic-metal bonded body manufactured to measure bonding strength from room temperature to high temperature is shown in FIG. 2(a). The ceramic 1 is SiAlON, the metal 2 is nickel, and the metallized metal 3 is titanium, zirconium,
We selected hafnium, nickel, and chromium. The size of Sialon is 20 mm x 20 mm x 25 mm in length, and the nickel is a foil of 20 mm x 20 mm x 1 mm thickness. Various metallized layers were formed on the bonding surface of Sialon by performing an ion beam mixing process that combines vapor deposition of a predetermined metal and implantation of inert gas ions in advance. For comparison, metallized layers were also formed using only vapor deposition treatment and after ion beam mixing and then vapor deposition treatment. The bonded body shown in FIG. 2(a) was manufactured by inserting a nickel foil between a pair of sialons having a metallized layer formed on their bonding surfaces and heating and pressurizing them in a vacuum.

である。FIG. 4 shows a schematic diagram of the ion beam mixing device used in this study. After attaching the ceramic sample 6 to the sample holder 5 and making the inside of the vacuum chamber 8 a high vacuum of 10-5 Torr or less with the vacuum pump 7, the evaporator 9 containing a predetermined metal is heated with the evaporator power supply 10 to produce metal vapor 1.
The ionizing gas 14 is supplied to the ion generator 13 energized by the ion generation power supply 12 while being controlled by the gas controller 15, and the generated ion beam 16 is directed onto the surface of the sample. By irradiating the surface of the sample, a metallized layer is formed by injecting inert gas ions while depositing metal on the surface of the sample. By not irradiating with an ion beam, a metallized layer can also be formed using only vapor deposition treatment. Argon gas was used as the inert gas. Regarding the ion implantation conditions, the metallized layer was formed under various conditions, and the treatment was performed under conditions that allowed the formation of the most stable metallized layer for each vapor-deposited metal. Table 1 shows the results of the ceramic-to-metal bonding test. The bonding temperature is 900℃, which is equal to or lower than the active metal method.
was the standard. The applied pressure was 8 MPa and the holding time was 30 minutes.

A bending test piece measuring 50 mm x 50 mm was cut out and subjected to a 4-point bending test from room temperature to high temperature in vacuum. Figure 3 shows the results of the bending test from room temperature to 800°C. The following findings were obtained from the bonding test and bending test results. (1) Titanium, which has the highest activity among metallized metals, bonds at 900°C with or without ion implantation, but zirconium, hafnium, and nickel do not bond at 900°C unless ion implantation is performed by vapor deposition only. . This is thought to be because the combined use of ion implantation activates the deposited metal, making it easier for elements to diffuse even at low junction temperatures. The nickel fractured during the fabrication of the bending test piece, so it was not possible to measure the bending strength, but the metallized layer treated with ion beam mixing was better than the metalized layer bonded by vapor deposition, which was bonded at a higher temperature of 1,050°C. The bonding state was clearly better than the layers. Chromium did not bond with or without ion implantation. (2) The bonding strength of a bonded body manufactured using a metallized layer formed by ion beam mixing of titanium, zirconium, or hafnium is approximately from room temperature to 800℃, which is close to the bonding temperature of 900℃. constant,
It also has a bonding strength of about 100 MPa, which is sufficient for practical use. On the other hand, in a metallized layer that is subjected to titanium vapor deposition only and hafnium ion mixing followed by vapor deposition, the bonding strength decreases at high temperatures. This is considered to be because a metallized layer with high adhesion is formed by the ion mixing process.

Therefore, there is no need to limit the metal to nickel, and the metal can be freely selected as long as it can be bonded to the metallized layer.
