Abstract

PURPOSE: To eliminate short circuit of arm and to suppress error voltage by providing each arm element in a bridge circuit with a PWM signal and an OFF signal.
CONSTITUTION: A current flowing through a current sense semiconductor switch(IGBT) in an upper arm element in response to a PWM signal having no time lag is detected through a current detecting circuit 6 and the polarity thereof is then decided through a polarity deciding circuit 5. It is then fed to a switching operation circuit 10 and a photocoupler 1 is connected through a switching circuit 2 with a driving circuit thus turning the current sense IGBT 8 ON/OFF. At the same time, a switching circuit 21 is connected through the switching operation circuit 10 with an OFF signal generating circuit 91 and a driving circuit 41 thus sustaining the IGBT 81 in OFF state. Consequently, short circuit of arm does not occur even if the IGBT 8 in the upper arm turns ON/OFF with no time lag. According to the invention, error voltage due to time lag can be suppressed even when detection of polarity is difficult.
