Abstract

PURPOSE: To smoothen transfer of sheets between loading units, in a paper sheet feeder of a copying machine or others using cassettes loading sheets on its two parts, by retreating a pressure unit to a non-pressure position in correspondence to transfer of sheets on a second sheet loading rack.
CONSTITUTION: When a sheet P1 on a first sheet loading rack 12 is all fed and a sheet sensor detects it, a motor 14 operates to rotate a shaft 4, a pulley 6 and a belt 8, and a rear edge regulation plate 13 transfers to the right. In this way, a second sheet P2 transfers to the right, turns a rear edge regulation plate 11 of the first sheet P1 in the B direction and opens the way, proceeds onto the first sheet loading rack 12 and transfers further to the right. Thereafter, when the head edge of a sheet reaches a specific position, a sensor 12d works and rotates a motor 23, lifts up a separation claw 17 through a pinion 23a, gears 21, 20, a shaft 18 and a cam 19, simultaneously pushes down the loading rack 12 at a horizontal position as shown with the arrow D and releases pressure. Consequently, it is possible to transfer the paper sheets smoothly.
