Abstract
PURPOSE: To drive an elevator cage and a balance weight effectively even on a gradual slope or a horizontal part by using a linear motor to move them in these parts in the direction of going apart from a winch sheave.
CONSTITUTION: When an elevator cage 11 is just starting to travel upward from a bottom horizontal part 1C of a pit 1, a linear motor 20 at a top horizontal part 1B is operated to give a thrust force to a reaction plate 23 of a balance weight 12 situated below, and thus the weight 12 runs downward. This gives a rope 8 a sufficient tension for the cage 11 to make horizontal movement and also strengthens the friction force of the rope 8 with sheave 7, wherein drive with a winch 5 is used at the same time, and the cage 11 begins moving relative to the weight 12 certainly on the bottom horizontal part 1C. When the cage 11 and weight 12 have moved to a steep slope part 1A of the pit 1, the drive with the motor 20 is disengaged, and the cage 11 and weight 12 receive a rotational friction drive force from the sheave 7 with the tension to the rope 8 due to their own weights, and move up and down only with the drive by the winch 5.
