Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce noises effectively and improve reliability of a device by positioning an end of a magnetostrictive line housed in a fine and long tube at a longitudinally intermediate position of a driving coil.
CONSTITUTION: An end 21A of an amolphous wire 21 is positioned at an intermediate part in a longitudinal direction of a driving coil 15. When a pulse current is applied to the driving coil 15, a generated line of magnetic force shows the highest density at the intermediate part in the longitudinal direction of the driving coil 15. Supersonic wave is effectively generated on the amolphous wire by magnetostrictive effect. The supersonic wave is propagated from one end of the amolphous wire 21 positioned at the intermediate position in a longitudinal direction of the driving coil 15, that is, the end 21A on the side of the driving coil 15 in the direction to a detection coil 17. When the supersonic wave passes a magnetized portion 21C of the amolphous wire 21, a detection signal is output from a detection coil 17 with certainty.
