Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the size and power consumption of a device by providing a solar battery cell for photoelectric-transferring the physical quantity of applied light to the quantity of electricity.
CONSTITUTION: A solar battery cell 12 is disposed on the opposite surface to the surface of an upper glass base 4, to which an upper transparent electrode 3 is stuck. The solar battery cells 12 are disposed like a grid on a portion outside the display dots. That is, the solar battery cell 12 does not exist in a portion which overlaps the upper transparent electrode 3. In this case, seen from the display surface side, the solar battery cell 12 is disposed in a gap between the display dots. Accordingly, the solar battery cell 12 can receive light entering the portion outside the display dot. Thus, a power supply unit in a device using a liquid crystal display is simplified so as to reduce the size and power consumption of the device.
