Abstract

PURPOSE: To restrain heat released from a light emitting diode from being conducted to a rod lens so as to prevent the rod lens from deforming and deteriorating in light distribution characteristic and to protect the light emitting diode, the lens, and others against damage.
CONSTITUTION: LED pellets 2 disposed on a wiring board 1 are selectively turned ON through a wiring provided to the board 1. Light emitted from the pellets 2 is condensed through a rod lens 3 and projected. At this point, heat released from the pellets 2 and conducted to the board 1 is transferred to the lens 3 only through a protrusion 30. That is, as a cavity 30 and a gap 34 are provided between the lens 3 and the board 1, a contact area between the board 1 and the lens 3 is very small, whereby heat released from the pellets 2 is hardly conducted to the lens 3 even though the lens 3 is directly fixed to the board 1. Furthermore, air is made to flow into the vicinity of the pellet 2 from outside by convection through the intermediary of the gap 4 which communicates with the cavity 33, so that heat released from the pellet 2 is effectively dissipated and the pellet 2 is prevented from deteriorating in service life and characteristics due to an thermal effect and improved in light power maintaining factor. Heat itself conducted from the pellet 2 to the board 1 is made to decrease.
