Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the scattered body sticking prevention effect of a laser light projection end surface by applying an optical fiber with a tensile force which is larger than its fracture strength, breaking the optical fiber by plastic deformation, and polishing and finishing the breaking surface specularly. CONSTITUTION:The silver halide optical fiber 1 is applied with the tensile force which exceeds the fracture strength of the optical fiber 1, and deformed plastically and broken, and the breaking surface is polished to a desired diameter and finished specularly to form the laser light projection end surface 1a. The optical fiber 1 is therefore tapered by the plastic deformation nearby the laser light projection end surface 1a. Consequently, when the laser probe is used, the sticking of a scattered body on the laser light projection end surface is reduced and heat generation and absorption nearby the laser light projection end surface by the laser light energy absorption of the scattered body are suppressed to improve the reliability of the laser probe.
